Beautiful square, fantastic at sunset and night, my kids enjoyed jumping around, you could take great photos of the place.

Really huge square in the middle of Erevan. Surrounded by impressive government buildings. There are singing fountains on the square- best appreciated at night when the lights come on. I have seen people drink the water at some of the public water fountains- dont know how advisable that is but was assured by local friends that the water is fine.Various cultural programmes can take place depending on the time you visit. Large expanse surrounded by all sorts of shops, restaurants and buildings. You are bound to pass by in a cab or marshrutka if you are in Erevan for a few days. The side streets away from the square abound in all sorts of shopping ranging from the ridiculous to the haute couture shops. The square itself is worth some time to hang around and watch people and traffic, a few memorable photographs if you wish. Erevan is a rather memorable place- a quirky mix of the old and the not so new. I enjoyed my stay here.

The square is large and flanked by monumental buildings comprising government ministries; museum/art gallery and hotel. However, it is used as a car park and has a huge through-flow of traffic and so cannot be enjoyed at all.

Very nice suare. When I was there one evening it was a very nice concert with water and light shows. Lot of people come to see. Very nice place but I didnt like that one of the buildings was a hotel

Armenians suggested me to see this place.Well- maybe it was too cold or I wasn't in the right mood. I even can't say what I'd expected. Anyway I went here. Saw nice buildings like the museum and ministerial houses. Architectural it was good to see. At night , I saw them illuminated , much better as during daylight . The water fountains were switched of due to the winter time. Guess I'm summer it must be much better

A large and beautiful square surrounded by some interesting architecture of the old soviet era. The buildings around the square are mainly government ministries, but also includes the Marriott hotel that looks just like the other buildings. The square is a large walking area with the fountains and is nice starting point to go in all directions and see Yerevan. It is short walk to the North Street, pedestrian street, with its many high end shops and restaurants, coffee places. This leads to the Opera House. On one side of the square is a museum of Armenia history which is well worth visiting.

Good starting point for exploring the city in all directions.A bit too many cars, but still a real nice spot for people watching.

This is a fabulous city square, very expansive and usually festive. We've visited many times, including for New Years 2015 celebrations where they launched fireworks from atop the History Museum on the north end of the square. The square was designed in 1924 and completed in 1929. Known as Lenin Square during Soviet times, it once had a large statue of Vladimir Lenin, but that was torn down in 1990. Today it's a bustling tourist and business center. My main complaint is that the city has done very little to quell the car traffic in the square, including lots of cross traffic. At any given time, between the traffic passing through and the parked cars, there are many hundreds of cars in the square. Sometimes it feels like the whole square is just a parking lot. I wish they would ban cars and make this a beautiful pedestrian zone, but chances are slim to none that will ever be a reality. In the meantime, it's a pretty cool place and definitely a mandatory stop if you're touring the city.

Liked the huge roman arched windows with columns on the typical red brick buildings. The place was full of Santas and their glittery white lady elves. Lovely for all the children.

Absolutely gorgeous singing fountains! One of the best in the world! It’s a pretty interesting musical fountain, with music ranging from classical to hip hop to theme songs (from the movies)! The water streams and the colours change/dance according to the rhythm of the song/music! A must visit for every visitor to Yerevan!

This is basically the main point of getting to / from around the city. It houses some popular hotels, administrative offices and national gallery/museum. It's quite a busy area with the traffic but still nice to stroll around. In winter, you wouldn't get to see the dancing fountains but it's well decorated for the Christmas/New Year holiday season. The buildings are beautifully made with its rose colored Armenian stones.

Huge Downtown center with lots of happenings, particularly in the evenings and nights. Neat and clear roads with directions. On the weekends, the Flee Market is a must to watch for some real bargins. But must be accompanied by a Native Armenian.
