Highly recommend this ski resort, the initial investors had problems when they built but now new investors are bringing it back to life. Really cool tree runs and varied terrain. We had great snow conditions. Powder!!

We did a day trip from Furano, about 1hr 15mins by taxi. Had heavy snow overnight and through the day on perfectly groomed runs and good variety ungroomed. School groups can clog up the lower slopes a bit but staff do their best to manage guests quickly onto chairs. Very picturesque place and good intermediate standard but advanced and expert skiers may have had enough after 2 days. If going to the area, consider as a warm up resort ahead of a week in Furano.

We were here for a day trip and most of our day was spent out of bounds and back country. Having said that, we did have a few warm up runs on the groomers and I was impressed with the size of the resort. Plenty of long runs and not at all crowded. The base station is an excellent place to refuel with food and warm up as is the timber cafe just up the hill.Look out for the excellent cheesecake shop that also makes an excellent espresso.

ok place for ski, as snow quality is quite good. Ice village is quite good, esp. for children, many activities for them. problem is the choice of restaurant or convenient stores around is very limited. Plus cost of ski rental, lift are quite expensive.

This resort has many facilities which fulfill your winter wonderland imagination. The ski slopes and gondola to go uphill. Ice village: igloos, ice bar/cafe, ice skate ring. Snow games: snow mobile, banana boat, etc. Onsen (hotsprings). Huge swimming pool with many games perfect for family.

This resort is very well equpped with many ski runs of different levels to choose from. The runs are long and thus we do not need to spend lots of time to line up. Hotel has nice spa and thid helped to relax the sore muscles.

I like the resort and it is perfect for family stay. Big hotel rooms and yummy seafood. We like the wave pool the most.

I didn't stay in the hotel but I was there for a day trip. The activities in the snow are abundant. Imagine riding an inflatable boat and being pulled by a snowmobile. The rider is experienced enough to give a hellish ride or a gentle one depending on your preference. There are 2 gondolas, one for skiing and another for sightseeing. In winter, they have an ice village just for the occasion. It opens at night and it's a long trek into the village. It's actually a 10-minute walk but in the dark at -16 degrees C, it seems an eternity. Transportation is via JR trains of buses from Chitose. I tried the train. A shuttle bus drops you at the station and then, it's an anxious wait for the train. The station is in the middle of nowhere, forest all around and a double lane motorway in front of the station. You will not see the resort from the train station, so you can judge the distance.

Most stay at the resort as it's contsins the gateway to the unkai terrace to experience the clouds at your feet! Every morning, visitors take the ropeway up to try to catch a glimpse of the interesting natural phenomenon. However some days it's just mist. The resort offers more such as the indoor wave pool and onsen as well as numerous restaurants and eateries.

I visited Tomamu Hoshino from Dec 16 to 19, with my wife and kids aged 11 and 8. The family room with 4 low beds was comfortable. It was our first time skiing proper. The facilities for family are good, and we did not have any problem with our dining vouchers. I booked the resort using their website. Ski in out was good and the instructors were good. The restaurant serving seafood rice is good, with delicious king crab and uni. My only complaint is the cost of the ski lessons, as they compute based on 2 or 4 hour lessons per day, with 4 hours slightly discounted per day. The full charge is imposed on the following day, ie without discount after the first 4 hours unlike eg another resort. But overall, the resort is great. My stay was made all the better with hotel staff Ueda san who went out of his way and assisted us, making the stay memorable.

For the stay in your hotel everything is perfect only one big problem.I booked the room through your website and its breakfast and dinner included.the 60days early bird promotion booked on 28 October 2013. Paying 8200yen per head for each night. Total of 32800 yen.End up I only receive breakfast but no dinner . I double check the confirmation mail and it doesn't mention anything about our meals.but im pretty sure that I book it with dinner included. As I did many research about your hotel before I book. Its obviously there is no where else I can get dinner around your resort but only inside the hotel. So I double check on your website to compare the price. Its shown that 60days early bird promotion with breakfast only is 5500yen . And breakfast with dinner is 8800yen. Which meaning to say im paying 8000+ should have dinner. And your website there is one package 8500yen with only breakfast. Remember. I booked it 60days in advance for sure not to save the 300yen as a promotion. Also the 5500yen breakfast only. Its from 2013-11-30 to 2014 -03-31.my stay is 2014-01-20. That means its in between of the promotion. Do you think its possible for me not paying 5500 but 8200 for only breakfast!?So I went down to ask for the dinner coupon. But the staff from the reservation department keep saying its only breakfast without any proof. I asked her to check on their website as I did. And what she trying to do is keep showing me the price of risonare hotel which is more expensive. And I make it very clear that im staying in the tower standard twin room which dont have to add any money. What she do is showing me the price in march is expensive. I dont concern about how much I need to pay in march. I just want a very clear information that shown today,20-01-2014 paying 8200 is only for breakfast but she can't show me anything to proof that for the 60days early bird paying 8200is without any dinner. So I just request to pay another 600yen per head to have dinner include. Which is shown on your website! And she said cannot.Meanwhile another couple standing next to me is complaining they book through the website with lift ticket and the didn't receive it at the end.I feel very disappointed of the stay.not just about im paying extra money but getting nothing. Also the way of the staff solving the problem is trying to bring other things out to confuse the customer. Like she keep showing me risonare hotel price. Family room price. And the price of march. Just to let me feel like the price I paid is reasonable.I know sometimes website mistakes happens.but at the end she didn't do anything to help with my situation. I think at least she should bring up the manager to explain about it. Or just give us one night dinner. At least we can see that she is trying to do something to fix. Also for the confirmation mail I think is better to make it clear how many meal are included. So there will be no more customer losing their money for nothing in the future. Thanks

I recently travelled to Tomamu for some great powder (in March). The great appeal of Tomamu is the proximity to Chitose Airport; as one of the closest big size resorts to Chitose/Sapporo, the bus liner can have you on the snow within 1130am if you catch the 930 bus (which works really well flying in from Bangkok arriving 8am). Book all that in advance. The resort itself, the tower hotel is a little dated, but the rooms are nice and the ski resort delivers some outstanding runs, although the lift layout in 2013 was a little flat in places for a snowboard, this is something the resort has been changing and I look forward to returning in 2014 with the NEW lift layout where they have corrected some of the placement of stations and reduced the total number of lifts while increasing the runs. This is not unusual in Japan, quite a few resorts have some fairly funky lift placement! The views from a 30 storey hotel are extraordinary, and it is worth taking a book, as the TV only plays Japanese stations - ok as they had the world baseball classic on while I was there, but maybe not so good if you only watch gameshows. The resort itself is a great place to go for all levels of skier/snowboarder, and with the new lift layout is probably even better than when I was there. On the left hand side looking up, there are some really nice groomers for carving, the centre zone has good tree skiing and powder, then the right hand side directly above the Towers is entry level good groomers for beginners/intermediates. The gondola is seemingly the quickest way to the top, but like a lot of Japanese resorts this is a volcano type mountain, so it is very steep at the top, ok in the middle, and very flat at the bottom; meaning if you want steeper terrain you are maybe better to stick to the upper chairs. The snow quality here is a bit better than Niseko/coastal resorts, while there are more blue sky days also. Unlike Furano they are quite ok here with riding offpiste in bounds, provided you register (I think you need a mobile phone for this plus a bib); the trees are a lot better spaced than Furano also, in that respect it is like Sahoro, but with a bigger resort area to play on.One nice thing is the bus leaving tomamu there is a late bus so you could more easily ride here a few days than almost any other resort, since you can get more than a halfday the first day, and ride a full day until 5pm (from memory) on the last day.Be aware that this is a fully enclosed resort, so while there are a few places to eat and a massive wave pool thing to check out, this is not a proper town unlike Furano or Niseko, and so perhaps a little less lively than some other places. Coupled with lack of English TV, I suggest taking a good book or computer to play endless games of Minecraft or similar ;-)Tomamu seems to be one of the few resorts that is currently investing in their ski resort with changing around their lifts and hopefully they will open up more terrain on the mountain in the future - the location really makes this a great place to visit.
