Simple but very nice to know about city of CDO but no lifts and not well conserved. if you like CDO and environments.
this museum is a water reservoir before when the city of cagayan de oro was a small city. the place is like a tower and it is beside the cathedral catholic church of the city, it was transform as a museum when it is no longer being used. when you are inside you can see a lot of artifacts being used by the people during early days. a lot of old pictures that tells the history of the city. try to visit the place and you can see an old ostrich egg being displayed. and be sure not to touch it. it is being prohibited.
If you have an interest in history, this museum is worth a visit. They provide good photos and written history of Cagayan de Oro. There are not many artifact to see besides the building itself, but still gives a good sense of the history of the area. The museum is three-stories, but an easy climb. There are no windows, so it can be a little hot if you are there in the afternoon. The museum is open 9:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday and is located across the street from Gaston Park. There is no entrance fee.
Tripadvisor list the two museums seprately but I guess they are one and the same because there's only one museum located across Gaston Park. This museum needs a lot of improvement. Very few artifacts but the story is interesting. This is the first time I saw a museum housed inside a water tank/reservoir. The city had no use for the old water tank so they converted it into a museum. Very original idea.Going there is another story. We rode the tricyle/jeepney all rolled into one. It's very unique fom of transportation somewhat similar to the tuktuk in Thailand. It's a motorcyle with a jeepney-like body where 2 can sit in the front and 4 at the back (6 if you have kids).Traffic going in CDO is terrible. Everybody wants to be ahead of everybody especially the tuktuks and the taxicabs. No respect at all for pedestrians. The vehicle with the loudest horn is king.
Who would have imagined that an old water reservoir could be transformed into the city's museum? Quite unlikely and almost incredible, but they did it and that's undoubtedly creative. However, the materials on display seem to lack substance, variety and quantity. It's a pity that it seems like they would not be adding any more items in the near future. Since they do not charge an entrance fee, maybe the local government should allot a bigger budget in order to improve the place. It is, after all, supposed the showcase of the city's history.
