An impressive set of ruins to walk by during the day and take some photos. Sunday evenings however there is a free outdoor concert. Music in this bohemian-style event, from 5:30pm to 10pm." The night I went, there were some professional dancers in costume that went first, but then after that everyone could go up and dance in front of the stage. There were plastic chairs, but don't bet on snagging one. It's more fun to stand and move with the music anyways. There's a little bar selling beer, and if you're hungry be sure to check out the burger place - it's very small and hidden. One of the best burgers I've ever had.

Impressive ruins, ok at night, but not lit up. Dont go out of your way as they are always closed, but if you like ruins and want some photos, then it is only 2 block from Plaza de la Espana.

We went to the ruins on Saturday in a sort of roundabout manner and were not impressed. I went again Sunday morning when it was quieter and found the other side, which was quite beautiful. Then Sunday night we went up around 7 and discovered that they have concerts there. It was a nice mix of locals and tourists with a dance floor that was used quite a lot. They set up chairs and little plastic tables. We got the sense that you had to order a beverage to occupy a chair. There are plenty of places to enjoy the music without paying for the chair-we ordered a large Presidente and paid 150 pesos each. There are also a few restaurants right there where you could eat and enjoy the show. An absolute must if you are in SD on a Sunday evening.

But now it is only a ruin of stones. A place to take some photo's but nothing more. No information except at the gate.

One of the most beautiful historical colonial architecture places to visit. Highly recommend it. Since it is used for weddings quite often, it is very well kept.

So i have lived in the Dominican Republic for two years as an LDS missionary. And honestly one of my favorite locations near around the Conde is this monastery of San Francisco. This location is just beautiful even though it is in ruins. Now I don't know the history of that location but I thought it at one point as a hospital.

I was really excited to see this location. This monastery was destroyed by earthquakes and is now used for live music events. The gates were locked when I arrived but the gates are wide enough to slip a camera through and get some great images. If you arrive at sunset, the colors are amazing. It's a beautiful location.

during the day it may not be worth a special trip. However, every Sunday evening from around 8pm-11:00pm there is a live concert playing caribbean music. There is a dance area in the center and 100's of locals come out to watch the show. There are lots of plastic chairs but they go quick so get there early. Last Sunday was amazing, with a total of 5 brass players, an electric bassist and guitarist, 5 singers, etc, etc.If it is very rainy the show may be cancelled. If it's sprinkling here and there they usually will STILL have the show. I have seen them play until it sprinkles, pull tarps over the instruments, then play again when the sprinkling stops. They are truly dedicated as water is ruinous to instruments.

If you have some time in Santo Domingo, it's okay to see, but not really worth doing everything you can to see this place. I wish there had been signs to tell me something about the place, or being able to go inside it, so have a better look. You can only see it from the outside and in the park next to it there are a lot of people hanging around, staring at you. Nobody followed us or did something annoying, but I didn't feel quite safe around the park.Had a great local meal next to the park though, so I'm really glad we came here. 100 pesos for fish in coconut sauce, plantain, rice and a small soup, what more do you want.

my husband and I went there while in the DR for our honeymoon. We could have done with out seeing it. While we were there numerous people followed us around asking for money, not locals. They made us VERY nervous. While we were among the ruins locals started throwing rocks and old food at us. We left rather quickly! The sight its self was beautiful and interesting to see, but staying in your car is HIGHLY recommened!

You may find the the ruins of the Monastery are locked up. If you're interested in seeing more, call out (hola! works fine). Chances are someone will emerge and open the gates for a closer look. A few pesos tip is considered sufficient.

Trovandosi nelle vicinanze di Plaza de la Hispanidad ci si può fare un salto, ma se il tempo é poco é una delle cose che si può saltare perchè non c'è molto da vedere.

Gostei muito do Monasterio, acho bastante interessante para quem vai a Santo Domingo, embora não seja exatamente o tipo de turismo que eu goste de fazer. Mas vale a pena.

Si te gusta la historia, los cuentos y eres amante de estos temas, tienes que ir ya que aquí reposan muchas historias de heroes ocultos. En 20 minutos haces el recorrido.
