Thanks Bob for allowing us to take flight with you. As you say.."free loading." It was our first experience hang gliding and the views were amazing. Bob was calm, reassuring, professional, informative and made the whole experience so much fun. We were able to fly close to the halks and see them soar all around. I can't wait to hang glide again. Attached is our video:http://youtu.be/LBeDUSLWHJkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTFv7-7TV-w&feature=youtu.be
After I read the reviews, I was desperate to go hang gliding with Team Spirit. I emailed them a week before my trip but unfortunately they were all booked. However, they were extremely polite and offered to put me on the waiting list. So word of advice- if you really want to go- book as in advance as you can!
Flying Cubuy with Team Spirit was could not have been better! Keishya was very organized with the arrangements and Bob was somehow was able to find me a harness to fit my 6'3" frame... Falcon was in good condition, nice grass launch, smooth ridge lift, and friendly thermals out in the valley. After climbing to cloud base, the cloud streets just kept lining up. LZ was easy to reach and plenty big.I can not wait to fly with Team Spirit at Cubuy again!
Keysha and Bob are fully experience 17 Year's gliding in Puerto Rico to be exact. It was my girlfriend birthday and they made the most of her experience bob and her were up in the for 40min that was awesome I definitely recommend gliding with them it's a once in a lifetime experience with beautiful views.
The drive through El Yunque Park made finding the location where 'take off' was even that much more exciting going through windy roads with great views. We pulled up to see the small field with the hang glider, Bob (the tandem flying coach) by the glider, while Ed--his assistant---on the edge of the steep hill you run off. Bob was the ever calm professional who talked our son through what was going to happen, what he had to do to help Bob, etc., while Ed spent time speaking to my wife and I about similar topics and his having recently moved to Puerto Rico. Both of them were just so nice. The take-off just looked like it felt awe inspiring. We got great shots of it being right up next to them. The wind kept them up for approx. 30 minutes. We picked our son up at the bottom of the hill, following Ed down the narrow roads. Our son was so pumped having done it. He openly stated that it was his favorite part of his visit to PR. He will even draw you a map to the hillside so you don't miss out on it yourself.

We had a great experience flying two tandem flights with Bob earlier this week!Initially we had some difficulty contacting Team Spirit - it took a couple emails before they responded, and then they indicated they only take reservations over the phone (so if you're trying to book with them in the future -- try calling them first). We are a group of two and both of us wanted to fly. When they responded by email about a week before we wanted to fly with them, they indicated they were probably fully booked for our date. We tried following up by phone and it took a few days of trying to call them (leaving messages each time) before we got a call back. Again, they indicated they were fully booked on the day we wanted to go. However, we got a call from Keishya the day before we wanted to go, indicating they had availability for 1 flight, and possibly a 2nd flight. We were unsure about this (as we both wanted to go), but they indicated it was due to uncertainty around changing weather conditions, so we agreed to take at least one flight, and leave the second one to chance.I really appreciated their eye on safety as they would not operate if the winds weren't right. Fortunately, the winds held up, and Bob/Keishya were accommodating and able to get our second flight in as well! After chatting with them more, I understand the difficulty in booking was likely that they are a small business, don't have an office staff, and they are often the ones leading the tours, so they can only respond to booking requests in the off hours.Right now they only have one glider and one tandem instructor (Bob) operating, so if you want to go as a group of two people, one person will fly, you will wait for that person to land, and drive all the way back up the mountain, before the second person can fly. So -- plan for this to take at least 2 hours per person. We were fine with this, as the views from the take-off point were spectacular. But I'd suggest bringing something to read or do while waiting, as it takes about 90 minutes for the first flight to get back up. Each flight started with a 30 minute tutorial on take-off, flying, and landing (plus some paperwork), while Bob was setting up the glider. Each flight itself lasted about 20-25 minutes as the wind was cooperating during our flights. It's about a 35 minute drive back up the mountain after landing (and about a 1 hour drive from San Juan to the take-off site). What an adventure the flight was! We got great "air" and height, and there are spectacular views over the valley. Such a peaceful experience while flying! The landing was smooth. Make sure you bring some long sleeves as it does get a little chilly up in the air (and maybe sunscreen too!).The only things that could have gone a little better:-- improved responsiveness on the booking process-- if the first person that flies then drives down the mountain to the landing pad to meet the second flyer -- their assistant Raymond is a bit difficult to follow. He FLIES down the mountain, taking twisty steep roads at over 60 mph.-- a little warning that the landing pad is in a cow field, so you might need to watch out for cow poop piles and ant hills. The hang gliding harness protects you somewhat from landing belly-down in cow piles, but it's definitely an experience coming in for a landing inadvertently aiming right at a cluster of cows and making them scatter in different directions. Thanks again to Bob and his team - we loved our hang gliding experience and would do it again!
Bobby Hastings took us for a wonderful day of Hang Gliding while we were in Puerto Rico on a eight day vacation. Patrick O'Donnell and I, Bob Grant Sr. were in for a real treat with flying Bobby and Keishas beautiful Hang Gliding site. Bobby had all the equipment ready for us and Patrick flew a Falcon while I flew Mark Vaughn's Fusion 150. I had my own Fusion 150 seven years ago so I was very familiar with this glider and Bobby had a really nice Wills Wing Harness for me to fly. Patrick and I had great flights and entertained many Redtail Hawks that kept diving at our gliders as we flew above the mountain. Bobby also flew wih us as he had a tandem student and they soared with us. We all flew for just over one hour before the rain started and we had to land. The rain only lasted ten minutes and we felt fortunate to enjoy this beautiful site.Bobby is a real nice soft spoken gentleman and he looked after us really well and supplied us with the best of equipment and supervision. Team Spirit is Great!check out my Video from the event at -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTOHlYL4gV4
Bob and Keishya are top notch professionals. They always had safety in mind before all else. We hang glided with Bob last week. He piloted my boyfriend, myself and my 10 year old son. It was one of the best experiences of my life! Not scary at all (and I'm terrified of heights). It was fun, amazing, spiritual...... I am so glad we were able to fit this into our vacation.I would recommend making reservations for this early in your vacation. We had to reschedule a couple times because of questionable weather. So give yourself time to be rescheduled. Keishya and I were in contact for months before our vacation. She was quick, kind and professional in her responses to my many questions....(I was really nervous)! When we met Bob and started getting ready for flight, we were completely comfortable. We cannot wait to go back to P.R. and hang glide again. Next time we will also take the kayak trip that Keishya offers to Monkey Island! P.R. has so much to offer and so much to do, this is something you don't want to miss. Thank you Keishya & Bob! -Jenn, David & Jackson
I traveled to Puerto Rico for the first time to celebrate my birthday, and I had such an amazing experience. Keishya and Bob topped it all off by making sure my friend and I had a chance to go hang gliding, something I'd always wanted to do. I recommend sunblock and long pants for this adventure. Definitely worth it! My friend, who is afraid of heights, even braved her first flight and loved it! Special thanks to Keishya for making me a fearless driver on those winding, bumpy roads through the rainforest...and for recommending that roadside restaurant with authentic Puerto Rican food!!
What a lovely experience! We felt very safe and well-taken-care-of! The flight was wonderful and long, and everyone in our group had an amazing time!
Keishya calls her Barefoot Travelers Guest House a "B&A", or "Bed & Adventure", and I hope the idea spreads. How cool to wake up in a tropical paradise, have some fresh mangos and amazing locally grown coffee, and then go hang gliding over a rainforest!Neither my husband or I had ever been hang gliding before, and other than the to-be-expected "we're about to run off a cliff" jitters, we felt very comfortable with the crew and equipment. Keishya, Bob & Luis were incredibly professional throughout the training, launching, flying, and landing process, and the view was spectacular! This was one of the coolest things we did in Puerto Rico.
My mother and I are both avid skydivers, and decided to try hang gliding on vacation. We googled 'hang gliding in Puerto Rico' on a whim and Team Spirit came up. Called in to make a reservation and it turned out they only had open reservations for the day we were leaving, due to weather issues. But we managed to snag a slot in the morning and we couldn't wait! Keishya gave us great directions, that were very easy to follow, and it only took about 45 minutes to get there from San Juan. When we got there the wind was starting to pick up and they explained to us clearly that we might not be able to take off if there was any safety issue. We got trained up by Bob and Luis, and soon enough we were standing at the edge of the mountain ready to lift off. After a BEAUTIFUL and very peaceful flight we landed gracefully in a field at the edge of the mountain. Keishya was there to pick us up and took a few pictures of us with the hang gliders. If you get the chance, I would DEFINITELY put Team Spirit Hanggliding on your to-do list. They made us feel very safe, and gave us very detailed instructions on how to take off, body position during flight, etc. Being skydivers and adrenaline junkies, we were still very excited about the flight and both of us had a WONDERFUL time. Next time we come to Puerto Rico we'll most definitely be back to visit Team Spirit! We might even stay in their Batefoot Travelers Rooms guesthouse! And we might even be able to fly our own hang gliders by then! Thank so much Keishya, Bob, and Luis for a great morning, and an awesome way to end our trip to Puerto Rico! Until next time! :) :) - Ashley & Kristine
This is my third time hang gliding with Bob. I trust his knowledge and expertise explicitly. He takes an extreme amount of care in setting up the hang glider, and double checking everything. He takes an extreme amount of care in instructing you in proper launch procedures. His equipment is top notch. The trip to the launch site was an adventure in itself, with steep roads that no one on bicycle could humanly ascend! Must be 20 degree incline or more in some places. This time conditions were absolutely superb -- strong winds from the right direction. On top of that, it was a two-hawk day! Seeing hawks is considered good luck/good conditions for hang gliders! As usual, our takeoff went flawlessly. We drifted back and forth across the ridgeline, gained some altitude, then after a time set out into the valley. Due to the excellent conditions, we didn't lose much altitude. We returned to the ridgeline, then caught a thermal off the right shoulder, and took what I call the "spiral elevator". At one point we reached 3000 feet and had thin lacey clouds below us, but still good visibility of the terrain below. I took my camera out, which Bob had securely lashed to my flight suit for safety of the people below, and took a long series of pictures. I think what I enjoyed the most was seeing the expanse of undeveloped mountain forest above the launch site. I'm not sure if that is part of the El Yunke Rainforest National Preserve or not. If it is, my thanks to Teddy Roosevelt for protecting it! Bob indicated that we didn't lose much altitude again into the valley, so he circled a few times before nailing a smooth flawless landing -- much smoother than any olympic gymnast! I can't recommend this adventure enough. Not all flights will be as long or as high -- everything depends on the weather. But its worth it when you can catch it right. I also recommend the kayak trip to Monkey Island to see the monkeys and go snorkeling on the sunken barge out there. Keishya led the trip for my son and I and one other. Again, they have solid equipment. We even had a sea turtle swim under out kayak! We have our own place here In Luquillo, so we don't need a place to stay, but staying with Bob and Keishya at is probably a great experience too -- everything they do is top notch. Go for the adventure of a lifetime!
I have been hang gliding before, in different parts of the world, and have never encountered instructors that cared so much about not only making my hang gliding experience the best, but also my visit to Puerto Rico. Keisha and Bob worked relentlessly to schedule my hang gliding adventure at a time that worked for our busy schedule. And when the weather was less that cooperative, there were so patient to try to get flight. They are qualified professionals that will make sure you are safe and smiling! Thank you for going above and beyond - your exceptional customer service is so refreshing. THANKS A MILLION!
