Very nice, clean place. Good choices in complimentary continental breakfast. Only one restaurant: service can be slow due to apparent understaffing, so allow plenty of time. Food was good. In order to get into town, you must take a taxi: there's nothing around the hotel. Very quiet and relaxing. No problems.
We had a nice time on our ride and feel it was worth the money. They have a free shuttle to pick you up. Best part was swimming with the horses in the ocean. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and a waterproof camera. Ok to wear shorts, but wear secure shoes with bathing suit underneath clothes. Some horses were very thin (not the ones we rode) and standards of care of the horses are different than what we were used to, but I would still recommend this excursion.
We stayed here Thanksgiving week. We are incredibly thankful we found this beautiful, peaceful haven. The snorkeling is fantastic. Beautiful reef right out your door. The water is warm and calm. There is a salt water infinity pool next to the ocean, great for an afternoon dip and watching the sunset. The restaurant is lovely. Marvin is the cook who will create the dish you are craving! Kemp and Anita are the helpful and friendly waitstaff who are very fun to talk with. Plenty of space for frisbee, catch or anything you want to play with your children. The owner, Marcel, is absolutely wonderful. Passionate about the environment, she has created an eco-friendly (bring your own shampoo!) oasis. Our room was beautiful with a loft for our teenager. Kevin the peacock slept outside our door. If you are looking for quiet seclusion, this is the spot.
Went for the pizza lunch a couple of years ago (Feb 2012), my first visit to Negril (5th trip coming up). My son and I spent most of the time in the sea snorkeling. We didn't know about the reef or how to get there. It was nice and quiet and enjoyed our time there.
I read Aprilbride14's review on this site and I couldn't disagree more. The horses are well cared for. They are just very lean and probably a different breed than we are used to. The trail ride was brilliant and to finish off with swimming with horses was amazing. We'd never seen a water saddle before and it took a bit of getting used to but it was absolutely brilliant. An experience we will never forget and we have some great photos to remind us of a fantastic day.
This was off the chain !!!Swimming on the back of your horse. It was an out of this world experience for my family. The horses are very well trained and the guides are supper great and keep a close eye on kids if you have any with you. They take your camera from you to take your photo all together on the horses. It was the best thing I have done so far in my life. ( outside of marrying my wonderful Husband )
I went to Rhodes resort with my husband for vacation. To start off Wayne the driver is the perfect definition of customer service, he is very polite and funny. Jefferson is off the chart an amazing manager. He always keeps a smile and he is very laid back and respectable.. and be prepared to laugh because he is hilarious! ! Our room was very laid back and sexy setting. The beach is just like the pictures...so breathe taking!! I felt like it was a dream because it was amazing. My husband kept asking if we were in a real place.. As for the restaurant , the men were in the kitchen and they did there thing! ! O Shane and Marvin were a dream, both very respectable and always with a smile... The food was heart throbbing!! I wish I could bring them to CT!! Marvin... Noone in CT would go elsewhere as long as your there!! As for taking pictures, you have to really ask if the scenery is real because the outcome is unbelievable! ! At Rhodes resort you could fall in love... Over and over again!!!!!We will be back!!Candace and Lamorris Kinlaw
Loved Rhodes! We stayed on the beach in Negril for 4 nights and at Rhodes for three. If I could do it again, I would have chosen to spend more nights at Rhodes. I felt totally at ease there and the snorkeling was amazing! You could easily swim out to the reef and spend endless amounts of time' The room was nice and I LOVED the pool. Evans was our guide for horseback riding. He was AWESOME! He took a ton of pictures for us and I felt totally safe with him. I do wish that they had two prices for the ride, one for just a ride and one where you pay extra for the swimming. I also wish they has explained the swimming part better. The food at the restaurant was good, but expensive. Although, it was expensive throughout Jamaica. If I wee to stay again, I would have lunch at the restaurant and make dinner. Continental breakfast was included and was good....warm muffins! Please bring back the peacocks! This is a very Eco-friendly place and I wish more resorts would preserve the natural habitat the way Rhodes hall does. Lots of birds, fish, beautiful trees and flowers, etc. I think it felt so relaxing because it felt like we were coexisting with the environment.
I recently went to Negril on my honeymoon and we went to Rhodes Hall Plantation for horseback riding excursion. The scenery was lovely and the ride was solid, however....the animals did not appear well cared for. The horses were underfed, and seemed genuinely afraid of our guide. I have ridden before and, while I am no expert, I do know what a healthy horse looks like versus a malnourished one. While the ride may have been pleasant for us, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend anyone to support this facility due to the suspicious nature of their animal care - or lack thereof.
My family of six spent an afternoon at Rhodes Hall on a day trip from our hotel in Negril. The snorkelling is excellent straight out from the main beach - much better than anything we saw along the cliffs or on the reef in Negril, although you must be willing to swim out to the reef, which looks farther away than the 250 metres it is. My wife and daughter really enjoyed their horse back riding excursion. There is a bar along the beach where food is also available. Bar and other staff were very friendly and helpful. We paid $10 USD each for day passes and $50 USD for the return cab fare (for 6) from the beach in Negril. A great day trip.
I love Rhodes Hall Resort. My husband and I recently returned from our third trip today, and, like every time we go there, we returned home feeling very fortunate to have spent time in such a beautiful place. If you love nature and want to have a true eco-friendly experience enjoying the jungle, the gorgeous water, snorkeling, and also being around farm animals, then this is the place for you. It is rare to find such a tranquil spot. The owners are helpful if you need help, and otherwise, they leave you alone to enjoy this charming place. The Bay View restaurant on-site has delicious food with a varied menu. We were glad it was there and found it to be a very pleasant place to have our meals, with a very accomodating staff. If you are looking for action and excitement, this is not the place for you. But if you want to spend time experiencing the tropics and Jamaica's natural beauty, you will love Rhodes Hall.
Having done a ride & swim in Montego Bay last year my gf wanted to do it again in Negril. It was definitely a completely different experience than the Sandy Bay trip last year. The walking tour wasn't as much fun. Just a lot of jungle without a whole lot to see. The crocodile enclosure was cool but only saw a couple small ones. The guides were very informative. The swim portion is what made the day. Riding the horses bareback into the bay was awesome on its own but then you floated on the back of your horse while it swam. Truly a once in a lifetime experience and made the entire day worth it. I just wish they had some way of taking pictures while on the horses in the water. I'd love to have the pictures from that.Only downside was there were no lockers to keep valuables in while riding. Luckily I wore board shorts with a pocket to keep our money in. Otherwise you would've had to carry a backpack while riding or leave it unattended and I didn't wanna chance that. The price was a little high for a 3 hr excursion but its the experience that makes it worth it.
My husband and I were in Jamaica during spring break. We typically like to mix it up - stay for a couple of days in the busy part and spend the rest in a peaceful place. So we divided our stay between Negril and Rhodes Hall Plantation. I am so glad we chose to stay at Rhodes Hall Resort. It is one of the best places we have stayed in. As soon as we arrived, Jefferson explained the various amenities, areas of the resort and provided us with a cellphone to directly communicate with him. How cool is that! The room does not have a phone, but who needs one? Jefferson is an honest, super hard working and funny guy. We were in splits every time we heard his one liners. The other staff members are very professional and warm. The room was clean and super spacious. To our surprise there was a jacuzzi in our room! It had the basic necessities and felt cozy. The breakfast choices (included the package) are limited, they can certainly do a better job there. But you can order from the restaurant menu. We ate dinner once at the restaurant and thought it was alright. Loved the beach, reef, scuba diving and the peacocks! The views are top notch. All you need to do is sit on the hammock and day dream. The entire resort is private so you might feel like you are the only one staying there. We did have a water problem on one of the days. My husband wanted to rent a car but everything was sold out. We used the sharing taxis when we were in Negril and found it easy to navigate around. Rhodes Hall offers free shuttle service but the last one comes back around 5 pm. You can also rent a car with a driver for about $20 from the resort. We hopped on the sharing taxis that we found right outside the resort. We had an email correspondence with David and Marcelle and found them to be professional, prompt and understanding. Will definitely recommend it for a peaceful and serene vacation.
This is a very organized plantation. Lots of different types of plants. Staffs are knowledgeable and friendly. They make sure you enjoy the stay.
Our trip to Jamaica this past March was great. The resort staff was very professional and kind. They were very appreciative and their kindness/good intentions were heart fealt. Special thanks to Logan,Janet, and Jefferson...give those people a raise! The grounds we taken care of and the beach was clean and never crowded. The reef was a short swim away and the diversity(for Jamaica) was very good. The restaurant food was good too. The view from the eating area was AMAZING. I could get used to that view every day. However, I'd appreciate a banana/or a small slice of fruit with the continental breakfast. That would take the continental breakfast from good to great. We also appreciated the use of a free cell phone to call for pic ups, fridgerator to keep market fruit and juice/cola, and the use of the free shuttle...all add up into making the trip affordable. This would be the ideal place to take a young family...who want alot of time on the beach playing in the sand and water.
