Devon House was a great break froom the crush of the city...cool, shady, and the patties from the bakery were fantastic. We enjoyed and ice cream and felt this is a place we would love to hang out .
My husband and I and a few of our friends ate at the Grog Shoppe. We heard about the Devon House from another friend that we were traveling with (we were with a large group--university choir tour) so we decided to check it out for lunch on our free day in Kingston. We were beyond pleased! Our schedule with some other events had been a little mixed up that morning, so we weren't able to have lunch until about 2:30. Needless to say, we were passed exhausted and hungry. Fortunately, since it wasn't during a busy meal time, we didn't have to wait for a table. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was delicious! I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich, but I'm sure anything will be tasty. Whatever you order, you MUST try the lemonade! I ordered a coke to drink, but I ended up getting a lemonade later on after trying one that someone else at our table ordered. Afterwards we went to I-Scream, which is their famous ice cream shop and supposedly the 4th best place in the world to get ice cream. There were plenty of tourists as well as locals packed in there. The make their waffle cones on site, and you can smell them from just about anywhere on the premesis. Walking around the courtyard was wonderful and a nice change from all the hustle and bustle of Kingston. It was so peaceful and serene; there were plenty of shaded places to sit and enjoy our ice cream. They also have a bakery and chocolate shop; I hate I didn't get to visit those, but we were way too full! If you are ever in Kingston, the Devon House should definitely be on your list.
My children always heard about Devon House so we decided to go there. It was a nice experience. A lot of ice cream to choose from. The scoops were big and the price was just right. After we ordered the ice-cream we just chilled at the park, and enjoyed the scenery.
I loved and still am in love with Devon House! While doing my studies, this was a place where I was able to relax, see the sights and browse through the shops especially the "goody" shops. The I-Scream Shoppe, Bakery and Chocolatier shop were my favs. So Sorry that I didn't get to eat at the restaurant at the site.
I have been going to Devon House since I was a kid, I still get the same thing Lobster Patties and Rum Raisin Ice Cream. The grounds are really nice and the patties are so good. If you want the Lobster Patties I suggest ordering ahead of time and picking them up later. There is always a wait, but it's worth it.
Devon House is worthy of a visit for the historic value, the ambience is great for a family outing, the ice cream is world famous, shops are good value and the restaurants very good.
It's a highly recommended tour , full of history and insight .The guides are informative and the grounds are gorgeous, well manicured and beautiful. It's a former Great House, turn museum. The history is preserved nicely and there are many original period pieces in the house . Here you get up close and personal with the exhibits. They have a bar ,a bakery, that serves great Jamaican coffee and some of the best ice cream I've ever had.
Worth dropping in to grab an excellent ice cream from Devon House Ice Cream on a sunny afternoon. I am fond of their coconut, rum and raisin, and pralines and cream flavours. The servings are good value for money and it is worth queuing if it is busy. After your ice cream you can do some window shopping in the various boutiques, or sit in the grounds and enjoy the space.
Enjoyable place for a family visit. The Ice Cream is truly great with a wide variety of flavors to chose from.
Devon House was once a Plantation Great House. Today you can take tours of the house then meander through the external cobblestone walk ways while you visit the charming shops and eat Jamaican patties or visit the many restaurants there. A lovely way to spend an afternoon!
Just like every Jamaican with an overseas visitor I happily show off 'a Devon House experience'. Spacious green outdoors, craft stores, and of course Devon House I-Scream are all part of it. The pastry store with fresh juices and its nice outdoor sitting areas provide for informal lunch meetings with friends.But.... Saturday and Sunday evenings should be avoided as 'everybody' is crowding up the place. All other times .... enjoy!
You must get a tour of the Great HouseIt tells so much historyThen the story at the end about Lady Musgrave, the Governor's wife is so inter4
A lovely place to cool out in Kingston. Relax under the spreading Guango trees with a lobster pattie, then guava ice cream. Finally check out the Jamaican shops surrounding the courtyard for some original presents.
The saturdays the garden and the house are closed I guess. We only could visit the shops and had ice cream. An experience: two scoops ice cream is big! I have never seen this big. Good place for children, very calm.
The ice cream was great! Tried two new flavors, Jamaican flavors, and it was delicious. Very inexpensive. The atmosphere was very quaint. I would go again
