If you are visiting in the Thunder Bay area, and Kakabeka Falls is in the area of your journeys, you should pop in for a look. I grew up in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) and have been there many times in the last 40 years.
I saw these falls twice. once with my mom and dad and this time just my dad and I when visiting my sister. We dicided to hick a loop trail the second time since we didn't have time last time. This trail will Lead to to a Different waterfall called little falls. kekabeka falls is Amazing and they are huge waterfalls. They also have a Picnic area. The walk to the little falls is a bit of a hike but the trail is a bit steep in places. You go across the river to get to the little falls trail. Or you can also do a easy loop trail too. I think the trail started behind the visitor centre. enjoy.
My girlfriend was raised in Thunder Bay so had been to the falls many times before but as I was visiting for the first time from Scotland I had never been to Kakabeka Falls before. I must say it was beautiful. I could spend all day just watching the water. I found it very hypnotic.
Well worth a day trip drive if your visting the north shore. Duty free shop US side of the boarder. Fun little shops, restaurants and sights to see in Thunder bay! Don't forget the poutine for lunch and ameyhyst for a souvenir...
After a heavy rainfall I like to go and visit Kakabeka Falls. It was breath taking as always!Close to the falls is the town of Kakabeka which has some nice places to eat. The Kakabeka hotel isn't fancy but the food is excellent!
Awesome waterfalls and great natural beauty all around. Take to the trails and enjoy the hiking throughout the park for all skill levels. Great beach area for picnics and swimming. Camping with electrical hookups and hot showers. Even got some laundry done.
Pretty impressive. Think about it. It is the second largest waterfall in the whole country of Canada. And we are a family that enjoys seeking out waterfalls. No hiking to this one. Visitor center was closed. Not sure if it was for the season or because it was a Friday and maybe open only on weekends in October. It was less than a 45 minute drive from the border.
We had a lovely time visiting Kakabeka Falls and I'd return to see it in every season if I could. Trails around the falls are well marked and map provided by information desk was easy to follow. We had a lovely time and took our time walking around trying to drink in the beauty of the place. We were lucky enough to be visiting to catch the leaves changing as well. Lucky us! Definitely a must-see for all those visiting the area!
This is a well organized park with a good walkway to view this magnificent site. We come for a visit every time we are in the area. It has been nicely upgraded since our last visit 15 years ago although now there is a small entry fee.
The golden leaves, bright blue sky, white and diamond water rushing over Kakabeca Falls in mid October - pure exhilaration. The park is gorgeous. Any time of the year.
I've been here many, many times over the last 40 years, and I never tire of going back. The falls are amazing, and the viewing platforms are really well designed and built. The trails are interesting and well signed and maintained.
Love the falls love every season take my yearly pictures of my kids there.could not ask for a better place to have a picnic or go on a nature walk. Staff is very friendly and always can find someone walking around
Another nice falls to visit as you travel the Lake Superior Circle Tour. The Visitors Center had nice clean restrooms.
We were there in September and even with low water flows it was very good. It is a must see in the area.
