The Port Carling wall is a great presentation of the history of Port Carling by means of a wall of photos reflective of the years from 1860-1960. The collection of photos are positioned and prepared to take on the shape of the RMS Sagamo steamship which used to pass through the locks in Port Carling. This mural is striking, unique and very worth the stop to see. It is located right at the locks in Port Carling. The close up view allows one to capture the history of the village amongst the collage of photos and when one steps back to view it, it is marvellous to see the shape of the steamship. This wall is well-viewed at all times of the year but even more impressive in the summer when the steamships continue to pass through the locks in Port Carling. The wall is a part of the cultural heritage of Muskoka. Enjoy!
Over 9.000 Port Carling photos/pictures from the period 1860-1960 are placed on the wall in a fantastic mosaic, showing the ship Sagamo in 1922.Don't drive straight past. Stop and take a look. You will be surprised
Very interesting story of Port Carling, a good point to from which to cruise on the Lake. Port Carling is an interesting little town with a Museum well worth visiting.
We were hiking at Huckleberry Rock Lookout and met a local resident. She told us to pay a visit to Port Carling, especially the WALL, which is a few minutes down HWY 118W. So we went. We were glad we visited this place. This wall is made up of individual photos of the history of this little port town. Then looking from afar, they made up a huge picture of a steam boat. The town was getting ready to close for the season. Everything would be closed after Thanksgiving. We were glad we made it.
Driving along the beautiful 118, one will cross the Port Carling Locks and can not miss looking at this beautiful masterpiece. This Mural can not appreciated in just a look. One needs to look through the entire collections to appreciate a beauty.a Must Visit!
You can't just drive by this one. You must get out and examine this wall. It looks like a mural as you drive by, but once you examine it you realize that this mural is made up of thousands of separate photos. Some so old and very interesting. You could spend all day looking at these pictures.
All visitors to port carling need to stop at locks and walk the pier and really read plaque and truly study wallThe locks here enable pleasure craft to move from lake Muskoka to Rousseau for nominal feeFun to walk in port carling
