We had seen this church several times on previous visits. We always were taken by the tire around the steeple. We went by late one afternoon and choir practice was going on. We were invited in and given free run of the lovely church AND we got to enjoy the choir.
Whether you are a spiritual person ,an admirer of architecture , an avid photographer or a local history buff, a visit to Saint Peter's Catholic Church is experience you won't soon forget. The inside is beautifully well maintained and features decorative frescos on the arched ceiling and painted murals and statues - truly an awe inspiring sight! Well worth the visit!
Saint Peter's Church is an amazing architectural landmark that has been the centrepiece of Cheticamp since 1893 when it was completed. Constructed from local stone from Cheticamp Island, Saint Peter's Church is an edifice of skilled workmanship that demonstrates the love, and care to detail by Acadian craftsmen for a meeting place that everyone can be extremely proud of.The stained glass; interior accoutrements; organ pipes and interior finishing is truly a vision to be enjoyed by all tourists and local alike.
It is a beautiful church maintained by the local Acadian people. Such a delight to see in a small town.
Beautiful church with so much history. Don't miss the pipe organ on the upper level. Stairs are a bit rickety, but its worth the climb. If you've the time, enjoy a service there.
Too bad so many of the old beautiful churches are locked..Not able to go in and have a look..Looked lovely from the outside..
This church is a testimony to the local Catholic community and their faith. Beautiful church inside and great history to it. Fairly large church given the local population.
One of our stops on our Caravan tour was St. Peter's Church. A lovely place; lots of history. We enjoyed the history behind the church and the beauty of it's interior. A good stop if you are in the area.
Well worth stopping and having a peaceful few moments. The church is a standout as you drove along the main street.
This is a beautiful church with a very interesting history. We were amazed at the size of the church given the location and the areas population. I too wish we could have attended a Mass here but it was nice to sit and offer a quiet prayer and reflect on the generations of locals who have called this their parish church for generations. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the mood for a spiritual experience.
This is a Beautiful church. The story of the building of the church is fascinating. Wish we could have attended Mass in this beautiful space.
We heard music and found they were doing a musical fundraiser on the front steps to pay for new windows. The music was wonderful! Local people singing or playing fiddle.Inside, the church is very beautiful. My Catholic wife enjoyed some quiet time inside.Lovely place; stop and visit if you can.
This is a huge church for an area of less than 1000 people. It is beautiful inside and stately on the outside with it's two steeples.
Absolutely stunning inside - ornate and spacious. Very well maintained and totally accessible to all visitors - we were allowed to explore the whole place :)
I thought St. Peter's Church was a lovely place but the history made it much more interesting. It was hand built by the people of the town and a lot of the materials were donated, despite it being a very poor area at the time. Inside, there was a small organ on the second floor with choir seats on two sides, which were nice. There was some pretty stained glass as well. For such a small town, the church is surprisingly large. It was nice for a short visit. There was no one there when we went (Friday afternoon), but all the doors were open.
