We were too late to make the closing time of the lighthouse, but, since the weather was somewhat foul, we would not be able to see much up there anyway. However, the road that reached the lighthouse, as well as the rough seas, created some dramatic photo ops. Warning - roads are rough and close to the cliff.

Point Amour Lighthouse, was a pleasure to visit. The second tallest light in eastern Canada, it was built in 1875, with a large house attached to house the two light keepers and their families. The light was manned until 18 years ago. Besides exhibits explaining the lives and work of the light keepers, you can climb to the top of the tower (127 steps) for a breathtaking view of the Labrador coast and mountains. The guide was very personable and knowledgeable. There is a gift shop on the premises. Admission is charged, but for $10 you can by a season pass to many Provincial historic sites. To get there you must navigate a long dirt road (about 3 miles) which passes through the village of L'Anse Amour, whose population dropped to 8 when an elderly lady recently died.
