North American bald eagles wintering spot! In 2014, they counted 1600 in the area. Trees by the river are thick with them as they swoop down to feed on salmon. Can you imagine? You will feel like you are watching a movie it is so surreal. Start at the art gallery and ask for the best viewing spots. The gallery itself is worth the stop.
This place is probably the quirkiest place I have seen and be sure there will never be another place like it, but I love it because it is quirky. It offers a Chapel, art gallery, concert hall, bell maker, bird sanctuary and the list probably goes on - who knows….lol. It is typically only open on weekends in the evening, unless a special event is being hosted. Live music and dancing is often featured, as well as life theatre. If you happen to arrive during the day, no worries. You can always walk around the complex and enjoy what it has to offer. A very limit menu is offered (4 different kinds of soup and fresh veggies), along with beer and wine. Kid friendly.
The curators of the Art Gallery and Theater House gave us a private tour of the artists areas where so many mediums are used.I saw a towering 13 foot Bear cast in silver wow!!The lunch served was a hearty soup with home made bread! Yummy
We dropped by the Gallery not knowing it was also a venue for live music. We expected more in the way of art so we were a bit disappointed. However, the building was very interesting and the hot chocolate warmed me up!
A great venue for live music. Unique - interesting - awesome. Always a great time.A glass of wine + fantastic musicians = spectacular night
The BAG has such a unique quality. It is a beautiful building that feels like it houses the essence of the west coast of BC and reflects a lot of what living in Squamish is about. Beautiful artwork and sculpture displays that are constantly changing. Lovely food, and always good company. The real star attraction for me though, has been the numerous shows and musicians I have had the privilege of seeing there through the years. Always stunning musicians, amazing acoustics, intimate atmosphere. From listening to powerful opera singers, to rockin' out to the Paperboys, Thor has a way of selecting and presenting the best. Whenever I go to a concert there I am always aware of how rich the experience is and how lucky I am to be there. The BAG is a beautiful, timeless, cultural gem with so many good memories for me.
The Brackendale Art Gallery, BAG is the first place we take our visitors from out of town. The character and ambience of this unique building is a Brackendale highlight. To add to this, the information, pictures, scultures of eagles is inspiring. The home to the annual eagle count plus so much more all year long. It's all about food, music, theatre, history, nature, speakers, and hanging out.
The Brackendale Art Gallery, or the BAG as the locals know it, is an unigue setting for artists to display their work, Entertainment is from Bluegrass, Folk and Classical styles to name a few. Excelllent setting to watch the plays, many put on by the local Between Shifts Theatre. Salmon Bisque and Borcht served up by Pat, are an excellent delight after a tour of the gallery. Take a brish walk or a leisurely stroll through The Brackendale Farmers Institute Park next door to the gallery. You can walk many trails including the Old Pemberton Trail. And you cannot miss meeting Thor, owner and builder of the Bag. And Dorte who offers art classes in her newly established art studio. Left or right off Highway 99 at Brackendale (Depot Road), right on Gov't Road and look for the Unicorn. A memorable spot to visit.
The Brackendale Art Gallery has the best art celebrating the majestic birds as well as a nice woodsy place to have a treat and talk about the day. The 27th annual Eagle Festival starts January 6, 2013 with Eagle Count day. I'm looking forward to the numerous events all month long - speakers, films, musicians, tours.Rest of the year always has some thing awesome happening at the gallery.
