edworthy park & douglas fir trail

This park is literally a world apart. Right in the middle of west Calgary, bounded by a large hill and the Bow River, this is a wonderful escape from the pressures of the day. Beautifully maintained and clean.

If you need to get away from all the hustle & bustle of the city life & want looking for a shorter drive to get there, this is your place to go. Very accessible, whether you live in the North part of the city or the South (it has entrance on both NW & SW side of the park - it is bordered by the Bow River & Wildwood Community). This park boasts great line up of pine trees, 9 picnic sites and 3 playgrounds (if I remember correctly!). You can BBQ in the summer (firepits & BBQ stands provided). You can book a picnic site for larger groups. There is also a small cafeteria by the Bow River pathway. Unfortunately, as of December 2014, the Douglas Fir Trail is still closed due to the flood in 2013. This is my favourite place to photograph families!

If you go to Edworthy Park you definitely have to hike on Douglas Fir Trail. There are a lot of stairs though. It doesn't feel like you are in the city. It's calm and sometimes you can see the Bow River through the trees. If you like nature - go there!

Fab views, the Bow River, big trees, the railway...and the stunning downtown core in the distance. Really a bird's eye view of the best of Calgary. beautiful all year round . Wear sturdy shoes and in the Spring/Winter/Fall dress warmly. it can be wet or slippery...but is worth jsut even driving to down the road at the dog park for the views. you can just go to the top of the bluffs, or drive the windy road down to the river...all good for sightseeing quickly without walking. Or, walk the trails. Gorgeous.

We love getting over to this park and allowing our dog off leash time, fun going through the trees as well as being out in the open spaces..very dog friendly for the most part..still find the odd owner who does not know how to behave in an off leash area.

I love this place mostly because it got a nice and clean washroom in every corner, a play area for every age, you can reserve a spot for an event even marriage, or get a nice spot under the trees which with my relatives and friends did.Plants and trees are well maintained, surroundings are clean and its huge.

This is a great dog off leash area on the top, complete with stone Teepee ring circles. You can take some amazing photos of this grassed and slightly treed park. Along the road going down to the river there are some old sandstone quarries where much of the old buildings were constructed from. If you go down to the park, there is playground and picnic areas with fire pits. There are also some great trails for wandering through the woods, including the Fir Trail, which is old but not native...

I rented Picnic Site#1 for a group event because it was the only site available on the date I needed. With Calgary Parks still recovering from 2013 flooding choices are still limited. I would not rent this site again. The park was incredibly busy (the group that booked site #2 had taken over and filled my site and had music and a loud speaker that they used frequently). The bathrooms or garbage was smelly (so we couldn't use those tables). When we arrived I had to kept telling people that I had rented the area and I needed them to leave so I could set up - awkward! I'll choose a different park next time. Parks staff were not very professional - bathrooms were in a shameful condition.

We use the park to start a great running loop from Edworthy to the Crowchild pedestrian bridge and then back again on the other side of the Bow River. Such a beautiful trail with a sense of quiet - away from the frantic pace of the city. Definitely the best part of the weekly exercise routine.

Not to be missed , a brief hike on a beautiful wooded trail. You'll feel like Hansel and Gretel in a storybook setting. Enough of a hike and wooden stairs to get your heart going. Reminded me of Johnson's Canyon. Awesome!! So pretty!! And an amazing view at the top of the trail.

We love the trails and nature there as well as the river.Great place for walking, rollers, outdoor party and BBQ.A little spot of nature in a big town.Less busy on weeks day!

The playgrounds are amazing, and there is a lot of open space to play tag, frisbee, or just sit around and have a picnic under a tree. Angel's Cafe (across the Bow River) has great food for an awesome price, but if you don't want to buy food there are great picnic tables or spots all around. The Douglas Fir Trail is fabulous if you want to go running or biking, and is very well kept (just watch out for ice in the winter!). If you want a nice, relaxing day, go to Edworthy Park!

Picnic area is wonderful for groups or families, lots of trails on the south side and access to the Memorial Drive pathway. Many times we walked from here to Kensington for the afternoon, it's quite a ways but it is beautiful and lively. People, dogs, bikes and rollerblades.

I like to go there for walks is a nice place to take kids since they have several playgrounds. By the river a great place to have some splash if the weather is not cold. I don't like that can be muddy if wet.

This is my favourite place in the city to run, walk, or just generally enjoy the outdoors. Even if you're not fit, this area of the city will bring welcome respite to the hustle and bustle of downtown and the work week and let you get back to nature while only being steps away from civilization.
