volcanic hills winery

...Is how I'd describe my experience with this place. A group of us went up for my birthday. Annie who took us through the wine tasting was knowledgeable, friendly AND entertaining. We didn't want to leave.

The Volcanic Hills Winery is at the top of Skyline Gondolas. The trip up alone is a great way to see Rotorua.We attended a private function in the wine room recently and were impressed with the wines, food platters and of course the views. The service was outstanding and when asked about the attributes of the wine we were answered knowledgeably by the staff. All wine has to be tasted even if some are not your preferred style. And if you have had enough wine to see yourself take on the Luge I say go for it. It's a great visit

My partner and I came for a wine tasting here last week as part of our package deal brought over the internet. We found the product and local knowledge was superb and very interesting. We however came in whilst there were 3 other couples having their tastings. I come from a hospitality background and I was just stunned by how well our host shared his attention. He had everyone joining in on conversation so that everyone was receiving his service. So that was very impressive to me only because it was so smart the way he carried himself to suit every different couple. Unfortunately we didn't get a tasting until 15 minutes in which is the ONLY criticism i can give which was to have maybe a maximum of groups in at one time and to make people arriving aware of the delay and to relax. we felt a tad awkward at the beginning only because we had no wine. I would however like to say it was by far the best wine tasting we have had because of his personality and fun that he brought to us. We eventually were the only ones left so we were given his uttermost attention. I recommend this place so much as there wines are spectacular and our host was spectacular. Pinot gris was my absolute favorite aswel as the tawny. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience :) we would love to come back and buy a few more bottles.
