A very compact place but it had beautiful gardens and we were immediately handed a parrot each who we fell in love with! We then went into the walk in menagerie where parrots were flying freely. A memorable morning. Nice shop also.
Great collection of exotic and rare birds and great fun to feed them. Watch out for them flying over you or sitting on your shoulder, you might get pooped on! Don't plan on spending a long time here unless you bring a picnic, it's just not that big.
It was a great place to visit and to walk through avairies and see the birds in their natural habitat flying around. We were also able to talk to one of the staff members about the parrots and to have them sit on our hands and eat the seed.Very relaxed place to visit worth the effort.
An excellent place with plenty of bright colourful parrots. The parrots fly down and sit on you and will eat the peanuts you give them. A wonderful experience. Wonderful parrots love their peanuts" (age 9)"Amazing parrots fluff up their feathers" (age 7)
Great value for the price of NZ$10 (per person). There is a plethora of exotic parrot species to view and interact with, including the Sun Conure, Nanday Conure, Yellow Bibbed Lory, Moustached Parrot, Plum Head, Barraband Parrot, Galah, Crimson Winged Parrot, Buln Buln, Eastern Rosella, Regent Parrot, Quaker Parrot and many, many more.Upon entry, visitors are given a handful of nuts to feed to the parrots as well as the opportunity to hold and even pet them. There are several 'walk-in' aviaries which visitors can enter for a more up-close experience with the colourful (and often vocal) birds. Do be mindful that these guys have no regard for toilet etiquette and there is a pretty good chance that you'll receive a 'gift' or two on your shoulder - although that's all part of the fun (mostly for those around you).Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a very relaxing atmosphere of chirps and tweets make The Parrot Place is a must-see if you're in the area with a bit of spare time.
We visited 19 February, and had a brilliant interactive experience. The hostess was very forth-coming with knowledge about the birds and what to expect. The attraction is well set-up and the birds look content. A highly recommended must-see!!
Excellent place visit, the host are approachable and very knowledgeable. The premise are representing of a native environment as much as possible as for a semi rural place. Birds respond to people of all ages really well and their personality were greatly varied, some were shy, some were loud and some just wanted head scratches and I was never bitten by any birds whilst feeding them peanuts- the host even asked if anyone had peanut allergies before handing them out. Will definately return with my whole family! Thank you for the great experience
Had an amazing time, the birds were both cheeky and friendly. The staff were brilliant, the birds looked happy and well cared for. Definitely a must see!!!!
The family visited The Parrot Place January 2015. It is a very cool place and defiantly worth stopping in. The birds are wonderful and it is so great to get to interact with them. The kids had a great time holding the birds!
We arrived just before they were closing but we were made to feel welcome and entering got to hold some amazing beautiful birds we were not rushed and the attendent was informative and made us feel very comfortable and we were given peanuts to feed the birds as we walked around Elmo the rainbow macaw captured my heart a charming and well presented atmosphire highly recomend going there for anyone of all ages and if i was parrot born in captivity i would want to spend my life at The Parrrot Place thankyou so much for a fantastic afternoon we will be back.
This place is surely worth a visit. It has a lot birds that can talk. And if we wish they even give peanuts to feed the birds. It's a nice place to visit. It is just on the way from doubtless bay to bay of islands.
Had a really good afternoon at the parrot place, arrived early before the rest of my group and was so lovely to sit among the birds and hear them happily chatting away to each other, polite hellos being passed between the birds whilst they thought no one was watching. This place will make you smile, baby quails wonderfuly cute, loads of different species, and would be a wonderful place to bring kids. We brought a few kids in their 20's (biggest smiles) even to the bird phobic.
Having an animal mad child means this was compulsory. We got there at quite a busy time. Owners were very happy to pass each of us a young bird to entertain ourselves with. Plenty of birds to look at and most will come for the peanuts. Certainly kept our animal lover happy.
We returned after 3 years as our youngest was too young to remember her first visit which we thought was great. This time we were not treated to Elmo' antics, and the birds that you can feed were already well fed with a massive tray of seed, and were totally uninterested in being hand-fed. Our previous visit with a more hands-on approach from the owner was worth the admission price - this time I felt a bit ripped off knowing what it could have been.
