Stopped here to see what a butter factory looks like. We were impressed with some down to earth shops and interesting people. We bought a few items of clothing but didn't notice an eatery. May have been around the back somewhere. Seems only locals know about this place so could be better promoted. Still don't know what a butter factory looks like as we didn't see it only a couple of pieces of old machinery.
Loved the Old Butter Factory. Great cafe, and lots of great little specialty shops. Especially loved the timber shop.
Most of the galleries had easy access for me now that i need a walking stick to get around. There is one however with over priced faux antique tables and pottery that is full of steps and overly steep ramps that is worth avoiding. The leather gallery is good value and worth a look. For the other galleries you may need deep pockets or a credit card.
Having been disappointed with the community market this was a nice little stop. Original wood craft, leather goods, objets d'art. Different and peaceful.
The Old Butter Factory Cafe is one of those cafes that just keeps on looking for ways to get better. And frankly I like that. From revising the menu to improving the seating the owners are always keeping their eye on the ball. Their most recent innovation was to engage a very good jazz band for Saturday afternoons. The result is that more families have discovered this gem of a cafe has a really lovely relaxed vibe. The food & coffee is of a high standard, with efficient & caring service. It remains one of my favourite places to take guests as there is so much to see & do in this classical country style cafe that still manages to keep it's relaxed feel going strong. Hats off to the owners for doing such a good job.
Hidden among some trees on the way to Bello, this place is well worth stopping for a look (and a cup of tea and some cake!).There are some awesome little galleries and art shops, and a wonderful little cafe that is lovely. Delightful :-)
Many visitors to Bellingen whiz past the Old Butter Factory on the way in and forget to drop in on the way out which is a shame as two of the local areas best shops are here. If you want something wooden, including wind chimes, there is a shop here that will blow you away- I have two superb cutting boards, camphor laurel put to a good use, a lovely lampshade, a spectacular wine cabinet featuring red cedar and several wind chimes as well as wooden trivets and a wooden drum. Then for something really exotic go upstairs next to the cafe to see Moroccan extravaganzas-bowls, tagines, glasses, fossil tables and some really nice cookbooks. On the way out pick up a superb kangaroo leather belt or wallet from the leather shop. And there is a decent restaurant cafe.
Bellingen is such a great little town and the Butter Factory has many wonderful attractions such as the Nexus art gallery. It is such a shame that some businesses in the complex treat local customers with such contempt. Buyer beware of poor service to customers who complain of shoddy products at Cargo Lane - you will be treated appallingly.
You know when an attraction has become 'tried', how it has that sort of run-down, unexciting atmosphere? That's the butter factory. Sadly, it has flooded many times over the past few years due to climate change, and I reckon it's worn the staff down. It's not that the food is bad, or the venue unattractive, but the place has lost its mojo - probably since no one sees the point in a refit, which is what the whole complex needs.
Little has changed since my visit 10 years ago with leather shop, cafe, gallery and gift-type shops. Enjoyed and tempted by Moroccan wares in new shop upstairs. Coffee and cafe disappointing not being as hot as it should have been.
In a town that has a fair few food experiences this was a great breakfast place. Interesting shops too to look around while you wait. One warning, breakfast finishes precisely at 11.!
Its been a few years since our last visit and the place has not changed must. The place still has lot of hand made crafts which are all amazing but on the upper end of the price scale.Good spot for lunch during your visit to Bellingen.
Theres some great artwork and knick knacks in this old place,,lots of browsing to do and great stuff to buy or just look at there is a cafe here and ample room to move with huge tables for large families. plenty of room for the kids to run around in too
I had lunch at the restaurant last week, I was so impressed I returned the next day for more! Finding delicious, creative vegetarian dishes in country towns can frequently be difficult. No such problems here! The Butter Factory has a selection of vegetarian dishes that are truly gourmet. Inspired presentation, wonderful flavors, friendly efficient service in a lovely setting, this restaurant is a gem. And it won't break the budget either! The art gallery featured interesting works by local artists, the shops are quirky, very "Bello". I shall return!
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the restaurant complete with a roaring fire. The leather shop had so many must- have bags and the gallery displayed beautiful furniture and quality collectables
