Had a magnificent time on the tour. Our tour guide Rebecca was fantastic and showed lots of enthusiasm towards everything and had excellent knowledge about all things within Altina. We would recommend this Wildlife park to people of all ages.
I would not have known about this place except for local friends. A horse drawn carriage ride, animals that come up to the fence, small groups, and extremely knowledgeable tour guides. The animals all look very happy and their breeding success speaks for itself. I hope more people get to experience this but at the same time I hope they find a way to keep it relaxed and low key for the sake of the animals.
We drove 1.5 hrs to see this place and were not disappointed! We did the 1pm tour, which is the tour that they feed the animals which meant that the animals were always close. The tour guides/keepers are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We could see that they truly care about the animals that they take care of. The animals just seem happy to be there. This zoo is a little different. Its actually a working farm There were a few animals that they thought were pregnant but weren't really sure. They don't poke and prod or test the animals for breeding, they just let nature take its course. This was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone. And..... the white lion cubs were out and about for all to see! Thank you Altina!
The horse drawn carriage is great and you were brought close to the exhibits. The range of animals is quite usual, many I hadn't seen before in other Australian zoos. I'd recommend going in the morning during Summer but the morning tours booked out pretty quick, we had to book a week in advance. We went when it was feeding time which was good because the animals came up close, I'm not sure if this is done every time there is a tour so it'd be good to try and book for one that will coincide with the feeding.
Wonderful park. Really enjoyed the tour by horse drawn cart. Learnt and saw so much. Worth the trip from Sydney.
Gino, thank youI enjoyed my "white (lion cuddle) Christmas yesterdayThe experience was literally once in a lifetime opportunity. Your enthusiasm, care, knowledge and patience was amazing and I am still pinching myselfYour photographs will be treasured and it was well worth the 1000km round trip
The Altina Wildlife Park is on the Sturt Highway some 15 km east of the Darlington Point turnoff. Signage could be better, but there is a wind turbine on the property. Staff are great at getting older folk onto and off of the horse transport. We started at 1.00pm with 13 adults and 5 small children and finished the tour at 4.15pm - all thoroughly enjoyed being driven around the large complex. The guide, Julian, had a great sense of honour and passionate about the animals. Other commentators have earlier written a great message of their enjoyment. Highly recommend this to others who are travelling along the Sturt Highway.
Visited today and it was wonderful. The staff are passionate about the animals and the horse and cart concept is fantastic. Such an enjoyable way to see the animals and you get so close to them and learn so much about them. We would go back again
I wasn't sure whether there was much to do in Griffith, so the two wild life attractions were definitely worth it. The owner Geno (Hope I got his spelling right), and his crew are extremely passionate and knows the business inside out. The horse carriages where you're taken around adds to the experience. They have quite a few unique animals, not to be seen around too much in Australia. An advance booking is a must from what I recall.
I took my 2 grandsons from Melbourne ( aged 10 and 6) to Altina tody. They recently visited the Melbourne ago with their paternal grand parents. They commented the day at Altina was as good if not better than the Melbourne Zoo. The animals are so close to the cart you get a good look at them!!!
This is worth a visit with the tour guide being very informative about the animals. This private park is an initiative which has born out of passion of one person. The tour through the park is on a horse drawn carriage which is very different from other parks. Our guides explained about the animals and their behaviour in detail. Enjoyed the visit and worth a visit
