From the Hastings Point headland carpark you really get an idea of the Far North Coast of NSW. Long beach stretches of golden sand, waves coming in off the Tasman Sea and picture postcard views.
Great view but very hard to get a car park. Fantastic swimming area , good family destination. Very busy tourist park as it is a popular destination and not far to go to other local areas such as Pottsville, Kingscliffe.
Just returned from an amazing week of tenting at HP. Is this one of the most beautiful places in Australia? Enjoyed surfing, kayaking (you can hire one there), swimming and wading in the rock pools. $160 for the week with an ocean view from the tent - absolute bargain although you do have to rough it a bit with public toilet & cold shower. You have the convenience of shopping & restaurants nearby. Best holiday ever. You can only camp at school holidays.
This is absolutely one of the most beautiful parts of the Gold Coast full stop. There is a beautiful walking track that takes you right up on top of Hastings Point, right down to a little enclave beach which is seriously gorgeous. Makes you feel blessed to be Australian.
On Monday my husband and I were only two of several people walking the kilometres of beautiful wide sandy beach. On one side we had the blue water of the Pacific Ocean and on the other the sand dunes full of vegetation and wildlife. Peace and quiet reigned; it was very relaxing and tranquil. As we walked looking at shells, the resident sea hawk kept watch over us from a nearby tree. No doubt the hawk could also see a few surfers, a family with young children, fishermen and a couple walking their dogs in the unleashed section of the beach. More exciting for us were the many whales we sighted a couple of hundred metres off the beach and the many others further in the distance. (Currently the migrating whales are passing this section of the coast). It is possible to walk the beach uninterrupted from Hastings Point to Cabarita Beach Headland and then further north if you so desire. (During the summer months the Surf Life Savers patrol a section of the beach at Hastings Point). In the afternoon we took in the views from the Hastings Point Headlands and were treated to the sight of boats and many whales, including a number that were only a couple of hundred metres off the coast . Immediately to the north (at the base of the headland) there is a narrow inlet for Cudgen Creek. It provides a quiet place for children to swim, play, canoe and fish in the clam water. At low tide the water is so low that you can actually walk from the inlet to Hastings Point beach. On the incoming tide the water in the sandy floored creek is crystal clear and many small to medium sized fish can be seen. (During summer canoes can be hired to get a better look at the nature estuary). A playground for the children is provided on the foreshores of the creek. From the headland south you can walk for kilometres on the sandy beach to Pottsville. If you don't want the "glitz" of the Gold Coast (but be very close to it) and you want a similar beautiful sandy beach, then Hastings Point Beach is for you. The nearby Hastings Point township is quite small, probably much like the Gold Coast would have been more than 50 years ago. This is a very family orientated location with a number of accommodation options available. One camping option is located next to the Hastings Point General store and has uninterrupted views of the creek (on both sides), beach and headland. The Tweed Shire Council allows camping on the headland at certain times of the year. The council has provided free parking at the Cudgen Creek Inlet and at various locations on the headlands. One parking location overlooks the ocean, beaches and the township of Hastings Point. An hourly daylight bus service is provided seven days a week to Hastings Point by "Surf Side Buses". Two bus stops are provided at Hastings Point, one is at the General Store which is within a few metres walk of headland and inlet. The bus services travels between Pottsville and Tweed Heads with connections to Queensland's "Translink's" Gold Coast buses. These buses have connections with the fast Gold Coast trains to Brisbane and Brisbane Airport. Distance from:the Gold Coast Airport - 20 minutes by carFrom Tweed Heads - 15 minutes by car, 60 minutes by bus; From Brisbane, Queensland - approximately 2 hours by car, nearly 4 hours if travelling by combination of train / bus. Train to Gold Coast - Varsity Lakes (current end of line) then by bus (two bus connections required)
