It feels like the entire state is at your feet when you reach the top. Even with the gusty wind (I really should have thought about the weather) it was stunning and the sunset was superb. Great little hike to reach the top I know the sign at the entrance says 2 hours round trip but that's being extra conservative. The hardest part was dragging myself away I could easily have spent 1/2 a day climbing the granite boulders that are scattered around. Don't forget water and a camera is a MUST!

A good solid uphill bushwalk to a great view from the crown.. average fitness required, there are some climbing bolts in place ready to test you out if you know what you are doing.

Evans Crown is a scattering of giant granite boulders hanging off the edge of a hill, long known to Aboriginals. The views from the top of the Tarana countryside are pretty awesome & it’s easy to see why they held ceremonies here. If your game, it’s an interesting place to spend a day poking around, exploring the massive boulders, finding paths thru & around them to access vantage points, making it a pretty good place to hide from the cops. The entry gate has an information board but has no other signage in the reserve as directed by the Waradjuri Aboriginal people who for centuries have considered Evans Crown as a spiritual place, giving it a mysterious vibe. It is in a completely natural state, little has changed since European exploration, only discovered by white man in 1813 only months after Blaxland, Lawson & Wentworth found a trail thru the Blue Mountains to open up the heart of NSW for exploration, farming & settlement. We spotted plenty of wildlife kangaroos, wallabies, lizards, kookaburras & a hawk. Finding a private spot in the shade with a view & a blue sky is pretty much the perfect day.Evans Crown is located in the Evans Crown Nature Reserve managed by the NSW Parks & Wildlife Service, off Sodwells road. The Tarana Hotel, a typical small town pub is located 5mins away on Honeysuckle road. A visit to Evans Crown could easily be complimented by a scenic day trip to Jenolan Caves 1 hour/60kms away via Oberon or to break up a trip if travelling between Lithgow & Bathurst. A straight drive from Sydney would be under 3 hours.
