Just south of the sleepy town of Buladelah, the pacific Highway crosses the gently flowing Myall river. The landform is part of the most beautiful string of lakes that parallel the stretch of coastline. Difficulty of access have kept them free of crass commercial development. Much of the land surrounding the lakes is composed of giant, stable sand dunes up to 120 meters high making them ideal for sand surfing. the area is a fabulous place for a diet of seafood. i am sure the local indigenous people, the Worimi, lived well on a rich and varied diet of fish, shellfish, crustaceans. Holiday resorts and a permanent community keep this area pristine with clean water and salt water fish. Resembling the sand ridges, the dunes run parallel to each other, like ripples on the seashore, stabilised by spinifex related to canegrass, banksias, blackbutts,as well as reeds and bullrushes that ring the lake Our tour ,by boat and 4-wheel drive canvassed the whole terrain teaching lessons in conservation as well as delighting us with the richness of the area. Superb interpretation as well as lovely pastry and fruit on board.
