This is a steamy but wonderful experience. This is one of the world's oldest rain forests and it is a World Heritage Site
Spent a great day in the daintree some great walks and also hikes for the more adventurous and stunning views
We rented a car from Cairns, and stayed at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel, Port Douglas. We enjoyed our day in the Daintree. We went straight to Cape Tribulation, at the recommendation of a Port Douglas local. The view was inspirational and the boardwalk was good. Then headed back down the road to the Whet Cafe (see other review)To the Daintree Tea - bought the Tea from the honesty box, Bought freshly picked Vanilla from the Daintree Mountain View Organic Vanilla Bean (Lot 38 Mahogany Rd Cow Bay, look for the signs - you have to travel up a dirt road until you see the signs, then toot your horn and walk down a steep drive) the vanilla is so good! Still using it in my Summer Mango smoothies back home:) We were able to have a dip in a local billabong in Buchanan Creek, there is a track off to the left as you drive south near the bridge, follow this down to the billabong in the creek. We had lunch at the Thornton Kiosk (see my other review). We then headed to the circular walking track - Jindalba loop - don't get tricked by the commercial car park at near the turn off, the National park track is at the end of the road, and has toilets and plenty of car parking. We took a picnic lunch - but had it for dinner back at the Hotel, as we were too busy seeing the sights. The trip across the ferry is enjoyable. We made it back to the ferry before the tourist bus rush (good time is betwee 3:30 - 3:45 ish)
I found the environment very interesting due to the information available on the recorders, booklets and signage. These described interesting facts about certain trees, animals or the ecosystem. I got to see the elusive Cassowary in its environment. The platform going up to the tree tops was amazing. The café was good too as we could get lunch and snacks. Lastly the staff were very friendly and informative on the Daintree. It was so good we visited twice in one week to absorb all that we could.
We rented a car and drove up from Cairns (took about 1.5hrs). You have to stay in your vehicle and take the ferry to cross the river to reach the park. Only about 6 cars fit on the ferry, so I would recommend going early to avoid any long lines. Once we crossed the river, it was beautiful to be surrounded by the forest. We took the following walks: Jindalba loop, Marrdja Boardwalk, Dubuji Boardwalk, and Kulki Boardwalk. Some of these boardwalks allows passageway to beaches. Last stop was Cape Tribulation, which is a must. Such a beautiful and deserted beach. I would recommend taking food and drinks, although there are plenty of places to eat, but of course, a little on the pricey side.
Daintree cruise and the tongue in cheek health & safety talk.Saw crocodiles and the Ulysses Butterfly and learnt about the medical properties of the trees and plants in the rainforest. Our guide was interesting & knowledgeable about the forest.
Great place to visit anytime. Cooler than Cairns in the summer and so peaceful. The drive is fantastic and there is so much space all around with sugarcane fields and rainforest every which way you look. You can do the Daintree river cruises and there is a few or hang out and try a crocodile burger or kangaroo burger for lunch in anyone of a number of different cafes up there. Quite tasty really but only if you take the picture out of your mind. Enjoyable place to visit and highly recommended if you feel bogged down in Cairns and want to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life.
Had a guide take us on our tour of the Daintree National Park. We first got on a boat and took a ride on the Daintree river and even seen a crocodile. From there we drove into the park and stopped along many destinations viewing the scenery and playing in the creek. The waterfalls were nice not as good as Yellowstone, Glacier and Yosemite. But, it was a very fun day.
What a beautiful place the Daintree is. We went on the one hour crocodile tour and had a great time. We had lunch at the Daintree village cafe and the barramundi was the freshest and best I've ever eaten. Highly recommended and very reasonably priced
Beautiful rainforest with easy, medium and hard trecks. Shuttle bus in and out if the only walking you want to do is deep within the rainforest. Trickling streams, bubbling brooks, native wildlife and just absolutely gorgeous forest. Could spend weeks in there if we had the time.
Beautiful setting, excellent well marked walking paths. You don't need to be supper fit to do the walks my 72 year old dad was with us and managed just fine. The shop is well stocked and I suggest you take water with you when you walk. The trees are absolutely spectacular and the bird life is awesome. It was quite dry while we were there but the forest didn't lose any of its charm. An excellent day out, take costumes and towels as you can swim in the mountain pools if you brave enough for the icy water.
She was used to be visited and took pictures.. We also saw snacks on tree top. This was the first time I visited the real rainforest river....
Highly recommend going there, just loved the Daintree rainforest. We drove out twice and did all the free board walks ( the ground can get very soggy, and so there are designated walks, where the path has been laid out to minimize damage and allow you to walk easily without being covered in mud. A few of them were completely flat - you could take a stroller or a wheelchair through it, though some of them did have stairs, you need to check first) The walks were all around a kilometer (half a mile) and each was spectacularly beautiful. The air is soft and alive and the forest is just so busy, so many plants, so many vines, so much growth, there is a lot to see, but at the same time, the green lets your eyes rest... Highly recommend, we raved about it
We visited Daintree NP in May 2014 and this was just awesome! As we wanted to enter the NP from the north, we asked in a tourist information center if this would be possible with a normal car. The lady of the info center told us this wouldn't be a problem. It was when we arrived in a small town north of Daintree, that we knew we wouldn't make it. We were facing a big river where they were still building a bridge. If we had a 4x4 we could make it, but now we just had to turn 180° and drive back. We ended up driving 250/300km extra because of this, but we managed to enter Daintree at the same day.We put our tent up and started cooking. After a while it got dark and suddenly we saw a lot of fire flies. Because we didn't know they were living here, and because it was the first time in our lives we saw them, we were really excited. The following morning we got up very early to watch the sunrise at the beach and here we got lucky too. We saw a wild crocodile swimming around, waiting for us to come closer. This was such a mysterious moment... We enjoyed every second of it!
We visited recently the Daintree, this place is awesome. We hired a 4wd and travel up from Port Douglas, it was a great experience. Only downside was the cost of the ferry across the Daintree river. When we return to Port Douglas for another holiday we will visit again.
