I'd like to report an on-going and fairly well known scam/fraud that continues locally. It well known that the cheese guy buys bulk cheese (cheddar) from IGA (Bega brand) when its on special and cuts it up and sells it as his own (at high profits). He also buys soy sauce in bulk from Sunny Bank in Brisbane, puts into small bottles and sells it as his own production. When we went to his cheese making course before knowing the above, he read the recipe from the box of a product he sells !! This guy is a fraud! This fraud is robbing locals and tourists alike and his business should be closed down. He has tarnished the cheese industry locally and yet continues to rip off people.Ah, and his grapes are pathetic - doubt very much he makes his own wine or that the grapes even come from his own property. Please avoid.
We saw the sign for cheese shop so stopped and just about brought one of everything. The cheeses were delicious. Then we tried the coconut yoghurt which was amazing. There were also cheese making kits for sale. The wines were nice. I like it when you go to a winery and the children are also included. My daughter was kept busy trying sauces while we tasted the wines. It is a very friendly winery.
Dropped in on an impulse because the Queenslander looked so inviting and found amazing products. Apple smoked cheese is incredible. The coconut greek yoghurt is completely creamy and tasty as well as being gluten and sugar free. The wines were also very nice with the sparkling wine my favourite. Definately worth a visit and the owner is very personable.
A chilly frosty Sunday morning and we jumped into the car looking for a little winery that served breakfast - we came across Severn Brae Winery Estate, with someone drinking coffee on the verandah of a lovely old restored Queenslander, with vines out the front and a little cottage garden to the left of it. We wanted in!It turned out the fellow and his lad drinking coffee was the owner, and he was happy to cook us up a breakfast, even though it was before opening time, so what a great start. He offered us a coffee, delicious and just perfect cappuccinos and offered a hearty bacon and poached egg breakfast which he set off making immediately, whilst we sat by one of the much loved dining tables. Nothing pretentious here but still felt grand. He offered us some of the "grumpy b*****d" port to start off with - we're not used to booze that early in the morning but he insisted, and we were glad he did. It's abdolutely delicious, smells like rich chocolate coated raisins, smooth on the tongue, enough to subdue any grumpy ... er, person! Breakfast arrived, mounds of crisp and tender bacon, beautifully poached creamy eggs on thick toast, 2x tomatoes, too much but too good to resist. We were keen to try his wines and did so, his sparkling pinot noir is delicious and fresh, not acidic, his 2009 shiraz really dark and purple, with lots of black olive and chocolate on the tongue, it's a full bodied gutsy red that doesn't skin the taste buds off your tongue whilst you savour it. Not many of those left in stock. His chardonnay is also fresh, not overoaked and very easy to drink, even at 8am! We also tried his cheeses - the deliciously creamy double brie was superb but it wouldn't make the trip home, we loved the apple smoked cheddar and the normal cheddar, and his amazing homemade soy ginger chilli sauce is Moorish. we'll definitely be going back there, his hospitality is outstanding, that's why you go to places like this, and to find them is a gem worth cherishing. No wonder he wins so many awards for his wines, but his personality is definitely a bonus - what a character! You won't be disappointed on any count when you visit.
