dinny goonan wines

After an jubilant welcome by Scout (the dog) my partner and I tasted and bought a bottle each of the wines we sampled namely, Shiraz, Cabernets and Riesling. We also enjoyed a glass of Shiraz with a cheese platter in al fresco dining under the eucalyptus trees in the vineyard. James Halliday certainly knows a good wine when it comes to Dinny's. Both Scout and Master were charming hosts!

An unassuming shed opened out onto a deck area under a classic Aussie Gum and underneath this we shared wine and a very well presented platter of local and imported delights – with of course a tasting of Shiraz and Riesling both deserving of the good company. On tasting the Sav Blanc was unexpectedly good and the Dinny's pickled eggs sublime. There's a small offering of local goods like honey, preserves, olive oil. A little understated jewel.

My husband was the one who went to the winery while I was enjoying the ambience at Countrywide Cottages.....apparently a very welcoming experience and he was treated to a number of tastings (surprised he actually came home...LOL). He came back with a Riesling....being a Chardonnay or dry white wine drinker I was initially not impressed....after a sip I was hooked. Lovely wine and when we left Countrywide Cottages I purchased a few Rieslings as well as a couple of reds as Christmas gifts.

Dinny Goonan loves his wine, and we love it too. Our two favourites are the Riesling and the Shiraz (both young and old styles). Platters are a good lunch option too.
