Thank you Mae for an unforgettable experience. Your cabin is comfortable and luxurious in your beautiful forest setting and meeting your wildlife made the trip very memorable. A very relaxing and interesting visit for 3days and Mae is very knowledgable and passionate about the plants and animals. We were very lucky and saw a wombat, kangaroos and wallabies as well as many species of birds. We loved it.
What a great spot! Beautiful bush with abundant birdlife and resident kangaroos, possums, wombats and other wildlife, with the added bonus of superb beaches right on the doorstep. But more than that, the eco-retreat that Mae has lovingly developed allows guests to enjoy this natural abundance while enjoying the luxury of this extremely well-appointed cottage. The loft bedroom with its extremely comfortable beds and views of the surrounding bushland, the well-stocked kitchen with organic and yummy breakfast provisions and tea and coffee, the fabulous deck complete with hammock and huge bean bags which encourages restful contemplation or the reading of a good book, and the amazing bathroom with the glorious bath with the picture window, all make this an outstanding place to stay. It is a brilliant example of a truly sustainable and ecologically sound ecotourism venture. Mae is to be congratulated for incorporating her deep and ongoing commitment to improving environmental outcomes with providing such wonderful accommodation. I hope this eco-retreat continues to inspire guests to do their bit for the environment, while providing them rest and refreshment for the soul. I loved it and I will be back!
We spent the weekend staying at Mae's wonderful retreat in Venus Bay. The cottage is set up with everything you might need, including a bath with your own private view of the bush surrounding the property. Mae is incredibly knowledgeable about the native trees, plants and animals in the area and is only too happy to share her knowledge with you, including doing guided nature walks around her property which I highly recommend. We were lucky enough to be visited at the cottage by some of the local wildlife, including Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Kookaburras, a Wallaby and a Copperhead snake! Mae's commitment to having an ecologically sustainable retreat that she can share with others is commendable and I would highly recommend staying here. I just wish we could have stayed longer!
What a blissful weekend! My partner and I enjoyed a perfect couple of nights at the Eco retreat at Venus retreat in November. The accommodation was beautifully equipped with everything you needed, nestled in amongst the trees with the wallabies and bird life... Walk to a secluded beach, have a luxurious bath with a view or relax in the sun in the hammock on the verandah. Couldn't rate it more highly. Can't wait to return!
My husband and I decided to come stay at Mae's beautiful retreat for our 5 year wedding anniversary. This was by far the best trip we've ever taken. The cabin was perfect. The animals we saw was amazing! Kangaroos with their precious Joey's, wallabies, blue tongue lizards, heaps of beautiful birds, even a tiger snake. Mae's knowledge of the native bushland, wetlands and animals were amazing. We were so educated on our walks. Her heart, passion and dedication keeps the bushland and animals alive.I could t believe how close we came to the animals. They felt safe as we were educated on how to act.Mae supplied us with a number of markets. We went to a couple and came back with the most delicious gippslamd produce. We will most definitely go back.I must say we've never slept as well as we did !!This is a retreat you must attend. Btw there is a cabin which has all the amenities you require. We stayed 4 nights. Perfect stay and would even go for a longer period next time.
My wife and I, plus our two little girls had a wonderful weekend away at Mae's place. The setting is tremendous........the Eco Retreat is in the middle of a beautiful Banksia woodland with a wetland on one side and the beach on the other. Mae is a great host and extremely knowledgeable about the properties plants and animals and the whole Venus Bay region which found out on her guided walks. So for a weekend getaway immersed in nature, beach and on the doorstep of many other food, wine and art opportunities this is the place to stay.
The accommodation is a lovely cabin, with luxurious bathroom and super-comfy bed. The location is the best bit of this place, it's nestled right in natural bushland, so you are pretty much guaranteed spotting some wildlife, we saw Kangaroos, Echindas, wombats, and countless birds. The host is welcoming and friendly, and the shops/cafés of Venus bay are only 10 minutes down the road, the beaches are even nearer. It's a good base for visiting Wilsons Prom, which is definitely worth the trip.If you want to get back to nature, you couldn't do much better.
Bird watching galore, wombats everywhere. Great walks. High level if reforestation and love for the environment. Not only that, but I left a shirt there and it is in the post straight away. Loved it.
My partner & I had two gorgeous nights at Mae's place - especially loved sitting on the deck, beautiful banksia forest, entranced by the number & wide range of birds, easy walks, great facilities, highly recommend a massage from Carolyn nearby. We felt a sense of gratitude for Mae's loving care of country and that we were lucky to be there!
This was just what we needed to spend some time away from it all.Beautiful setting of bushland, animals and close to an amazing beach. Lovely bushwalks easily accessable and just an amazing setting all round. The bath was the best part with bush views and wildlife to gaze at.
My friend and I had two nights at the Eco Retreat. Really had such a lovely time. Can highly recommend to everyone. Loved all the organic food and products. The big modern bath with a view was fab!!! We enjoyed the abundance of wildlife, and were delighted to see a gorgeous Koala next to the cottage on our last day. Very magical time with easy walks, great swimming beach, and great cafes nearby. Mae is to be admired for all the positive work she is doing. Very inspiring. Very relaxing. Very keen to go back!!! Loved our stay!!!
Me and my partner had a wonderful relaxing time here for four days over the Christmas period, immersed in the Australian bush - Mae is doing an amazing job regenerating the land. Part camping (cooking outside - being close to nature), part luxury retreat (amazing bath, good quality extras, comfy bed, sumo bags!) With walking tracks, the beach, and cycle routes nearby you can be as active or as inactive as you like. The authentic sustainability ethos also strongly appealed. Highly recommended - we hope to return.
The Eco Bay Eco Resort was the perfect place for us to relax and take in a beautiful part of Australia. From the cabin you can take short walks (20 minutes or less) to the bay or the beach (Beach 5); each providing a unique view of the ecology on the peninsula. The cabin was centrally located and provided easy access to some of the local towns and communities in the area. Within a 40 minute drive you could find yourself in Wilsons Promontory. Our host, Mae, was extremely helpful. She answered all our questions and provided some excellent suggestions of where to visit. Mae has done an outstanding job maintaining and protecting her little piece of paradise. I would highly recommend staying at the Eco Retreat for short or long term visits. Our stay was 6 days and we were tempted to rebook for another week. It was the perfect spot for us!
My wife and I had such a great stay at the Eco Retreat. It is very beautiful setting, but also the thought put into every aspect of sustainability within the property is impressive. It is a truly sustainable place, and Mae certainly inspired us to start doing the same with our home in Melbourne. While we were there we saw kangaroos, a range of native birds, a blue tongue lizard and an echina...so clearly bursting with wildlife. And the views are amazing. Thanks so much.
My wife and I found this little piece of paradise and we spent 3 nights here. We loved the bushland setting, the quietness and the wildlife. The cabin is cosy and clean and there is a luxurious bath tub to soak in. Mae has something special to offer the world here at Venus Bay! If you are looking for a place to turn off your phone and gadgets and de-stress from the busyness of life, this is the place.
