One of the older wineries I was able to have a cheese and wine matching tasting if that makes sense. The staff are very helpful and knowledgable. Just do not miss this from your Yarra Valley itinerary.
De Bortoli is one of the "old" established wineries in the Yarra Valley and surprises not only with great wines. Great location with stunning views over the valley. The price level is amazing with respect to value for money!Staff is extremely friendly and charming. The MUST MUST is the fantastic cheese platter with excellent choices, perfectly matured and matching to the wines of the vineyard.Best place we encountered on our wine-hunting spree:- some of the best wines in the region- excellent staff- nice atmosphere- lovely location and surroundings- drama free, charming, NO tour buses (thank you, guys!)
Overall, De Bortoli was the best winery to visit in the Yarra. Others have better wines but the number that you can sample at De Bortoli is staggering. The staff are great. The wine tasting counter is enormous, so you don't wait long or at all. There is also a covered BBQ area and a swing.
Very friendly & engaging staff, delicious wines, good value, in a relaxing setting. Gourmet snacks for sale at reasonable prices, too.
Beautiful winery. We had a cheese platter while wine tasting. Staff were lovely providing extra crackers for our little boy. Some nice play equipment for the kids is in a wonderful picnic spot on the grounds with a breathtaking view.
Today was our first experience of the Yarra and I'm so glad it was at this storied winery. We visited mid-week so it was quiet and were served by a very pleasant hostess. We tried half a dozen wines with the highlight being the trio of Pinot Noirs (see photo). We also tried the cheeses of which the highlight was undoubtedly the Epoisses closely followed by the Le Dauphin (see photos).Certainly well set up and professionally run, and definitely worth a visit.
Wine tasting in Yarra, what could be better? This large winery has a beautiful shop with lots of gourmet gifts. They have a cheese counter where you can purchase a tasting plate to go with your wine. Wendy was our wine server and she was awesome, knowledgeable and fun. Perhaps because it was a Wednesday and not too busy...we had lots of time to visit and talk about the wines. I really enjoyed many of the varieties they make. This is quite a large winery. They sell their wines all over Australia and also export to the USA.
The young lady at the Cellar Door could not have been more helpful, friendly and so very easy to talk to - a real asset to this business. The wines also were great - a very good range, and we were very happy a lovely sweet wine! We will definitely be repeat customers. Congratulations De Bortoli - loved it! Thank you.
We love De Bortoli at the Yarra for both its beautiful wines and friendly, knowledgable staff. As fans of the brand, we visited the Cellar at Hunter Valley, and were sorely disappointed by the lady who attended to our tasting. She rushed us (even though we wanted to taste only 4 whites), explained nothing, and only offered a begrudging one-liner when asked about the difference between their normal and their Vat lines. We picked up a few whites, but the entire bitter experience made us appreciate Yarra's De Bortoli even more greatly. The staff here at Yarra have always been sweet, and the experience delightful. Hence, we keep returning to the cellar to buy their wines, instead of purchasing at bottle stores. There are stunning, picturesque views outside, with rolling vineyards, where you can have a glass of wine, set against lovely manicured trees. Their restaurant is also wonderful, but as they are usually full, book well ahead. Definitely worth every penny!
Amazing wines.... especially the dessert & fortied ones:)Although you do have to pay a $3 for only a very small tasting of cheese & biscuits.
great lunch great service views were terrific and we really enjoyed the turine, fish was very good also comes with high recommendations from us
An amazing winery with amazing wines, cheeses, service and views. My favourite of the Yarra Valley wineries.
Enjoyed a nice meal with my husband, niece and her partner at the restaurant. We were sat at a table I think would normally sit 6 which made conversation somewhat less private. Easy to order a vegetarian and gluten free meal for myself. The meal portions were on the small side but tasty, made up by the desert which was really nice. The waitress we had was extremely helpful.
After being seated waited 25 minutes to be offered a drink. The waiter that seated us filled water glasses and somehow did not notice or pay any attention to much else. Main came out in good time and food was good.Dessert - 2 chocolate fondants ordered and coffee, Waiting 35 minutes, no sign of coffee or dessert or any waiter coming to our attention to see if we need a drink. Finally the Maitre'D attends our table explaining our fondants where overcooked and they had to re-cook them. We had to wait another 10 minutes. Yes he was apologetic but the timing to me did not add up after a 35 minute wait on overcooked fondant. Finally my coffee and two desserts arrived after a 40 minute wait and what was on the plate was really disappointing. We had a single fondant with literally a teaspoon of ice-cream. The fondants where far from perfect and not to mention noting to compliment the chocolate fondant. Very poor when you are paying top dollar. Mains were good, dessert terrible and service terrible. Overall experience, I wont ever be back. Plenty more local restaurants to choose from. Go to another beautiful winery that will give you great service and awesome food. De Bortoli need to review staff, service and food and until then I wont look at going back.
first time to De Bortoli and we were blown away by the entrees and pasta menu. best gnocchi I've had for years, brilliant wine selection and the tasting plate was to die for..and yes.. it had olives... the overall experience reflected an eye for detail and excellent service - we'll be back
