liked all about this place, the Gardens are Specktackular and we recommend this to all to visit you will enjoy it so much
This is not just a Dragon Museum...please do not be misled by the name. What you actually have here is a fascinating collection depicting the story of the Chinese immigration to this part of Australia, the enormous part they played in establishing Bendigo and contributing to its social and economic success. There are some truly awesome artifacts and treasures to be seen. Allow two hours at least and remember to take in the gardens and temple as well. Our thanks to the lovely lady at reception for welcoming us so warmly and to the staff at the cafe for two excellent flat whites!
Very good, chinese history when you first enter then through to some beautiful and unique relics, especially Loong dragon. Chinese gardens are so serene and relaxing, Guan Yin temple is located at the side of the gardens, lovely shrine to goddess.
A worthwhile attraction to see especially if you can get the Chinese guide we had.Very interesting and informative and a good insight into the foundation and growth of Bendigo.A must also include the Chinese Garden a big surprise inside.
The museum and its precinct with the garden and temple is really excellent. Well worth setting aside a good couple of hours or more to take in the history and stories of Chinese peoples and culture in the region. There are wonderful displays of high quality Chinese artistry and artefacts. The Loong and Sun Loong dragons are awesome. This would have to be the most comprehensive and best representation of early Australian Chinese heritage and culture.
Interesting place to visit to learn a bit about Bendigo's history. Gardens were nice and friendly staff
This is a wonderful place full of colour, history, displays of beautiful artifacts from the Chinese community of Bendigo. I thoroughly enjoyed spending a day here with my niece and grandson
fascinating insight to history of Bendigo's Chinese heritage. the Loon dragon was beautiful and so big too !
This museum had so much more than I thought- it took quite a while to go around the various exhibits about the Chinese Community in Bendigo and see the unique dragons they have there. Also, the Chinese garden is lovely- well thought out and interesting. A little cafe too, with very friendly staff.
If you are into your Chinese heritage at all, or even just interested in some of the historical Bendigo Chinese history, this is the place to come.Your $11/adult gets you into the Golden Dragon Museum and the Yi Yuan Chinese Gardens. Also in the vacinity is the Kuan Yin Temple with it's free entry. The museum has two areas, one circular room housing most of Bendigo's dragon and lion collection, and a second area displaying a lot of very old Chinese artifacts, ranging in size from tiny ancient coins to large carriages made of solid jade. The history of the two main dragons is quite interesting however no flash photography. The lighting is also quite dim to preserve the dragons so you either need a really steady hand to take photos with no flash, or better still, bring a small tripod with you.The Yi Yuan Chinese Gardens were quite nice, with their artwork, pagodas and ponds, but when we went the ponds were having an algae problem and were particularly cloudy. The Kuan Yin Temple is a fairly brief visit unless you intend to stop to thank your creator, but worth a look.
I found this attraction to be overpriced and disappointing, my wife loved it though. The first room you walk into is very dark (where they keep the dragon) no flash photography is allowed so photos don't show up the best! The second part of the museum with relics and ancient furnishings is a little better and everything on show is amazing! The garden was my favourite part, although the water was full of algae (which they had a sign up saying they were working on) the gardens still had a wow factor! We also visited the temple.Just don't think it was worth the admission charge...more so for kids
Displays set up beautifully~ areal sense of going back through history.Loved the focus on real people's stories.Enjoyed the water garden too~ lots of photo ops and very peaceful.Chinese Festival Dragon was also great to see and read about.
This area of town houses FOUR separate attractions; the Golden Dragon Museum, the Chinese Yi Yuan Gardens, The Kuan Yin Chinese Temple and the Dai Gum San Forecourt Precinct. The Chinese Temple is open to the public and has free entry. It is the first temple built in Australia which honours the Goddess of Mercy. It is a lovely temple within high walled gardens with some interesting wall paintings, plantings and sculptural elements. The Chinese Gardens are in a separate building and you need to buy a ticket to view them. They are a small garden and offer a glimpse into some elements of traditional Chinese gardens. I found them very disappointing, the Chinese gardens in Sydney are a million times better. The Golden Dragon Museum is FULL of very interesting artifacts, but it needs a good curator to sort and separate the exhibits. I found it overcrowd and overwhelming and felt it was a missed opportunity. The museum cafe was very disappointing - another missed opportunity and needs a good food and beverage manager to turn it around. The museum shop had excellent items and once again could do with someone with proper merchandising experience to make the most of this golden opportunity. The Forecourt Precinct links the Golden Dragon Museum with the Yi Yuan Gardens and Kuan Yin Temple. The Forecourt has some excellent flower sculpture installations, a modernist Chinese garden and lots of space for communal gatherings. There are FREE Chinese new year celebrations. In 2015 they will be held on Saturday 21st February 2015, from 7:00 pm. It is free to walk around and enjoy this area all year round.
This is the third time I have visited the Golden Dragon Museum. Many more exhibits have been added. Wonderful display and everything is treated with great dignity. Lovely staff. Took way longer than we thought it would. Had to go back and feed the parking meter.
