Well worth it. Better driving a 4wd and take lots of water if you want on actually doing the long walk after the long cool ride along the edge of the canyon.

Best bit are the views on the drive up the gorge. It's 4km sealed then 11km gravel road and the last 1km is pretty rough. Best to take a 4WD. Thomas Carter lookout itself is not much to write home about. We did not end up doing the walk as we came too late in the day and it was a bit too hot for it.

This walk is about 7 kms long, and is reached after a scenic drive along Charles Knife Road. We have a small 2WD, and although it is quite rough, our car coped fine. The walk is the best we did in the area and we loved it. It is not an easy walk so not recommended if you don't like or can't manage scrabbling up and down rocky hills. Good walking shoes and plenty of water are advised.

We did this in the dry and it was accessible in our 2WD Toyota RAV4. The views on the way up along Charles Knife Road are amazing. The walk is best done in the beginning of the day, with long pants, good shoes (both to protect against the spinifex) a hat and plenty of water. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended - a Class 4 or 5 walk. It is in the Cape Range National park so you should probably have purchased your national park pass beforehand as there are no facilities to do this on on the track up.

The views on the road to the lookout walk are awesome but I wouldn't want to do it in a 2wd. The walk was challenging but good. Make sure you have a hat, wear proper walking shoes and take food and water with you. Also it's best done in the winter months. Follow the white marker poles that show you the way.
