We were driving up to Salta along Ruta 40 and on the particular day we left Belen, things got hairier the further north we went. The road got worse (roadworks), the wind got stronger and the airborne dust got thicker. As we drove into Hualfin, things cleared just enough for us to see a whole heap of vineyards near the road. Then we saw a sign to a winery and thought we might stop and see what they've got going on here.It took a little bit of searching to find the right roads to get to the winery (not a direct route), but we eventually found it. We arrived and parked, then looked around - the place seemed deserted. We got out of the car in the howling wind and dust and scuttled to what looked like the cellar door. Inside was somewhat sparsely decorated, but with a few things to look at. A relatively young girl turned up to greet us and chat a bit. When we said we were keen to have a look around, she offered to show us the winery. Inside, we found the winemaker (Rolando Lazzarotti), who was pumping some wine from one tank to another.Rolando was quite happy to stop what he was doing and give us a tour of the facility, explaining everything, answering questions etc. We got to taste some of the various tanks at various stages of their ferments, and the whole thing was really interesting. We ended up buying some of the Torrontes and Malbec, both of which have continued to be as nice as we remembered!Turns out Rolando is also involved in a cider-making enterprise, so we got a couple of bottles of that too - Los Amaya. Sad to say, that didn't last long! Delicious. In summary, we had a great tour and tasting on an otherwise awful day. Thanks Rolando and team!
