terebovlya castle

I visited Terebovlya Castle on the first of September, a holiday in Ukraine as all students attend their first day of classes and wear their native costumes for the occasion. Once there you realize that there are many such beautiful structures in Western Ukraine. It provided a panoramic view of the town and was situated on wonderful grounds with a stage and seating area behind the castle. It would be a lovely setting for a picnic if one desired. I was there to connect with my relatives whom I just discovered on this very trip. I connected with a translator and driver at Active Ukraine who I cannot recommend enough. She was able to research original documents in the archive at Ternopil and we found we have family in the region (Romanivka) from at least 1895.If anyone is searching for genealogical records and does not have a good working knowledge of Ukrainian then you would absolutely need the help of a experienced guide/translator. I would recommend Active Ukraine to assist you in this regard.

Very clean well preserved castle with magnificent view of old Terebovlya town and its surroundings.We visited it twice during the first week-end of May 2013. Both times the whole place was quiet with very few tourists wondering around. Entrance fee is about 1 euro. Ascent isn't too steep. We easily get to the top with our 3.5 years old son on foot and 18 months daughter on stroller.At the back of the castle there's a huge old park with big stage, nice monument of Sofia Kshanovska and a lot of birds and butterflies. If the weather is nice and you have some food with you (there no shops or restaurants) the place is perfect for a picnic.

Тихий городок с минимум туристической инфраструктуры, хоть и расположен как раз на одном из популярных в Европе туристических маршрутов... В последние годы крепость приобретает схожесть с культурным объектом: билеты на входе, сувенирная лавка, чистота в парке... Но, осмотр нужно планировать на средину дня, что бы успеть доехать до ближайшего отеля - в самом городе отеля нет :(
