khust synagogue

There used to be thousands of Jews in this important city in the Carpathian mountains. Very little evidence of this community remains today. This beautiful synagogue is the one remaining relic. I visited 2 years ago and it is being restored as time goes on. To gain access one has to be in touch with community head Vladimir Katz. It has a beautiful decorative round ceiling and walls with an antique Bimah and Torah Ark. The individual Stenders (pews) and library of ancient Hebrew books give one an authentic picture of what Synagogues looks and felt like pre second wold war.

Синагога находиться в центре города, недалеко от городского рынка. Долгое время здание синагоги было заброшено и сама синагога была закрыта. Недавно благодаря помощи меценатов синагогу отреставрировали и она вновь распахнула свои двери для всех желающих приобщиться к религии.
