I expected more caves, but overall it was a nice experience. If in the area a must see. Try to visit when nice weather, as when outside is raining, all people tend to go underground, and as I have heard, it gets quite crowded in bad weather.
If you have half an hour and want to see something different than the surface of the city, it is a fun place to go. I don't have kids, but the kid in me tells me that if you have kids, they will love it :) Price: is not cheap, but not expensive neither. I think is a fair price for what you get. The underground cave and tunnel system is not big, don't worry on getting lost or loosing a kid inside. The cave was discovered in 1903 by Tóth Pál, a local baker craftsman, during digging out a water well. So this underground cave bellow the city is open to public from around 1913. It is not big though, the dry area is around 70m in length, the water filled area is around 180m long. Last part of the boat ride is an artificial tunnel, diged out so the circle would be complete. You can "paddle" in some big aluminium boats in the water filled cave part, I say "paddle" because at the end you will not have the space to paddle, but use your hands to go on, clinging on the side walls. Don't worry if you touch the walls with the boat, they can take the stress :). The water is very clear, and at a constant temperature around 19-20 degree Celsius. You can see the underground tunnels which leads to the underground cave system. The total length of the underground cave system is approximately 4 km, from which around two and half are reachable by scuba-divers. Overall is a nice experience, although short, it can be fun.
Really recommended to see, it is a really beautiful view under the ground. Prepare yourself you need to use a boat fro the trip. :-)
It is worth going to Tapolca because of this! Very nice and unusual place! If you happen to be there alone - the silence broken just by water dripping is magnificent!
In the center of Tapolca, Hungary, there is surprising must-see location. Underground lake! One doesn't expect this in the town center. Attraction offers short but exciting boat driving in the cave filled with water. This is a little pearl in the necklace of beauties in Tapolca and its surrounding.
Lake under the ground at lake Balaton! This special natural attraction worth the queuing! Do not miss it! In addition, admission fees are low.
Did this with my son on our way to Zanka and we were expecting something really special and cool. We were slightly let down because it was a very short "tour" of the cave. Not bad, but not great either. The cool thing was we got to paddle our own mini-canoe around this water pathway and the cave, while it was interesting looking, was way to short. The ride was seemingly over before it even began.Price was very reasonable, but I expected a much bigger cave. This cave was highly recommended to us, too. I have heard there is a better cave in which to explore on Tifany Island. Try that one.
Entry fee is reasonable. It is a short experience, with very nice friendly staff who tells you all neccessary informations about the cave. Nice cool are :)
I went to the cave with my friend and loved that they put us in a boat and we got to paddle our way around, i wish it didn't go so quickly though as i could've spent a while just looking around but the tour is not very long. The water and the caves itself were beautiful and i love paddling around so did have fun. Also language options for this part of Hungary were great! So thank you to the staff!
Fantastic thing to see.. Bit complicated to find it, and it lasts shorter then i expected, but still worth visiting :D
We almost missed it, as we were sure, it cannot be located in the middle of the town, and that our Garmin went crazy, but I am gald we didn't turn around!I must say it's wonderful! YOu will see no stalactites or anything of the sort, but it's soo much fun. You drive around in a metal tub, watch your head as to not hit the rocks, ceiling, walls etc... so much fun!
Must see, it is amazing!!! One of the best caves in hungary, because you can have a boatride on the underground lake!! Lovely!
This is a good attraction, and brilliant in a hot Hungaran summer as it is blissfully cool underground. You go down the steps into the cave underneath, which is floodlit. You then get into your own canoe (takes about 2-3 people depending on your size) and paddle of into the circular route through various tunnels and mini-caves. Everything is well-lit. It is calm and quiet and a good place to go to.
I think it was a wonderful experience rowing in a 3 person boat under the city, manoeuvring through small caves in crystal clear water. If you are at Balaton lake, definitely go and visit this place!!
You will find it at the biginning of the line... It is not easy to find it, but there were lot of people. We have waited 1,5 hours to go in (on a summer weekend). The cave is beautiful, but the trip takes only 10 minutes.
