It was one of the best experience during our trip to Crete. The visit includes not just small wine aging area and degustation of 5 different wines, but also some history of the winery and the visit to the wines also. We had amazing guide Karentza - she not just looks very nice and speaks perfect english, but she shared with us her best experience in regional restaurants and even cooking recipies. Thank you Karentza very much!!!
We had a great time during our visit to this Winery. Joke made us feel very welcome and the wines and cheeses are really delicious! Visiting this winery is a must do when you are in this area!
We visited the winery as a last minute decision but they were very welcoming. We were the only people there for half an hour until another couple joined us. We were given lots of attention and the tour was very informative. We had the cheese and wine option and tried 7 different wines, all lovely. We bought 2 bottles to take home with us.We did not walk through the vines but this was due to the time of year as everything had been harvested in September. We paid €10 each for the tour and €8 for the wine which is excellent value for money. The only improvement they could make would be better sign posts. We got a local bus to Alagni and when we got off we couldn't see any signs but luckily found a local to help.Would highly recommend, lovely host!
We stumbled upon the Lyrarakis winery one Saturday early afternoon. Mrs Lyrarakis was giving a tour to another couple and invited us to join. Wonderfull lady, full of knowledge and passionate about her family business. We got to sample some delicious wines along with a plate of cheese. It was quaint, informal and comfortable atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who wants to spend a great afternoon learning about wines and taking in the scenery.
My wife and I arrived before opening time on a Saturday morning, only to be invited in and be treated to what amounted to a private tasting and wonderful conversation. The wines were delicious and the hospitality second to none. Thanks Joka. :-)
As part of an amazing day tour of the wineries of the Peza region with the wonderful Georgios of Vintage Routes, my husband and I enjoyed a private tour and tasting at Lyrarakis Winery with the charming and knowledgeable Theresa. We were first taken to the vineyards where Theresa showed us some of the grape varieties which almost became extinct, but the Lyrarakis family has managed to revive. Because we visited just after the harvest, we were also lucky enough to see (and smell) some of the grapes in the process of being sun dried. We were then given a guided tour and tasting of 5 different wines - two white, two red, and a sweet dessert wine. Although we loved all the wines, I was particularly impressed by the unique, award-winning sweet wine Malvasia, made in an age-old tradition. I highly recommend buying a few bottles - gifts for family and friends (as well as to yourself!)
an elegant winery where the service was exceptional and the wine was beyond delicious! we were lucky enough to try even more wines than the ones that were usually reserve for the wine tasting.
Firstly, thank you Mrs. Lyrarakis for going out of your way to accommodate us - we really loved the wines your family makes. The best we've had in Greece. The personalised experience and the pride taken throughout make this a great place to sample the finest wines in Crete.
visited this place with some friends and their kids last august for a wine tasting and found it fantastic The personeel was very polite and helpful offering great personalized service. We were happily surprised to taste ~8 wines (and bought 6 of them) although when we booked it was written that we will try 5. The very nice selection of cretan cheeses as well as tasting the wines while looking at the cellar with the wine barrels that made the experience even better. on your way there you drive through the grape trees where sign indicate the varieties, it is awesome to actually see how they look like. the wine tasting event lasted >2h that totally worth it. i recommend this place both for the experience and the for the great variety and quality of wines
Special tour to the winery was one of the best attractions I've attended when I was in Crete. Excellent experience
A family run business, the winery is situated in a beautiful landscape, surrounded by hills covered with vineyards. Researching and collecting information from ancient and medieval manuscripts, Lyrarakis have been pioneers, for decades, in preserving local grape varieties that have been grown in the region for thousads of years.Try the amazing "Dafni" and "Mandilari"! A real discovery for me was the "Agourida" a local condiment made out of unripe grapes that was and is still used during the summer months instead of lemons and vinegar. It tastes amazing in cocktails too!
We were amongst the first visitors of the season but although it was very quiet the host took great trouble to welcome us and serve us. The tour was interesting, the wine tasting was fun, and it was a good experience. Would definitely recommend.
Personnalized service with wonderful hostGreat visit of the wineryLots of different wine tasting, red, white, rosé, dessert wine and more.Very good information given while trying all the winesVery cheap to visit and taste..only 5 euros...Everybody should go visit Lyrarakis Winery, beautiful scenery, super nice host.Best winery visit ever! Will keep very good souvenirsBought some wine and price are amazing and wines are delicious.
The winery is located 25 minutes drive from Heraklion and fairly easy to find. However, that night we stayed in Choudetsi, a small and traditional village 3 km away. The experience in the winery was very pleasant. For only 5€ we had a short tour of the vineyards and some interesting information on the types and making of the Lyrarakis wines. Then we joined another couple for the wine tasting. We tried nearly 10 different types of wine, most of them delicious which we ended up buying for quite a reasonable price. The wines were accompanied by small plates of local cheese, olives and crackers. The girl who gave us the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
the winery is located in a beautiful place, take a car to get there (about 25 minutes from Heraclio), wine tasting costs 5 Euro in case you don't buy anything, a nice lady will show you around
