Great if not quick trip. Always funny and interesting. Also give an idea of the history of the island.
Descending into the cool of this cave is a welcome contrast to the heat of the day. Walked there from Sami (about 30 mins) and all in all a pleasant outing. You'll board a row boat when you reach the cave whic gives you access to some stunning views, backed up by a narrative from the guide.
You really have to see this to believe it, the boat is a bit rickety but safe, the water is so clear and cold honestly you have to see it to believe it, the water really is that blue!
When you are in Kefalonia, you definitely must visit this cave, it looks like paradise. Visitors enter a small boat for a few persons and a guide, the guides provide you with information about the cave and speak a fluent english and italian.
This is well worth the effort, everyone will enjoy this visit. I was amazed by the beauty here. Take a good pair of shoes, they will be needed and help you enjoy.
Did this attraction whilst on day trip to Kefalonia.Very very touristy and although the views nice, seen one stalactite seen them all so not sure if worth the detour and cost. Each visitor will have their own opinion.
This site was really built up as something special. If you get the light right, it can be like the Blue Grotto in Capri (a "kaleidoscope of glorious colours", so they say) - we didn't, so we just punted into the cave, round in a circle, and back out again, with nothing particular to see. If you are passing, pop in. If not, don't go out of your way.
The Melissani cave tour is a good day out if you also visit Myrtos Beach. Although you may find that there is a queue to get in it is well worth it. When you get into the cave the boat men will take you into the heart, from there you can see the roof has a some time a long time ago fallen in, allowing the sun to glisten on the water below. I've never seen clearer water in my life, but be warned, it is a bit chilly.
We visited as part of an Island tour and as such were able to skip the long lines for tickets. Not sure I would have done it otherwise. Actual cave with clear water is beautiful and the guide/boatsman was informative and quite amusing. The whole boattrip is very short though, not sure it would be worth standing in line for hours for it. Glad we did it though.
we went as part of an organised trip.we got in line and qued.thats the worst part .although the que keeps moving,it still took at least 45 minutes before we got to see the lake.once it gets to your turn you ride on the lake in groups with a guy rowing and giving information. the lake is really pretty,it is worth seeing,my advice would be to go when its quiet.
