The marble entrance hall to the gallery is gorgeous, there's a range of work in the permanent collection although some of the hanging seemed a little crowded and with little German, we couldn't follow all the explanation cards. We enjoyed the current exhibitions, particularly Franz Bernhard, a local artist who was a new discovery for us.

The building itself is a very nice Jugendstil Building and the inside is very beautifulThe present expo about Dix/Beckmann is very much worth to visit And i would recommenc it to everyone who loves artIn every room there is a little explanation in english and German,The only bad thing is there was no audioguide in other language than German

very impressed with the current exhibition: Dix and Beckmann...woww it certainly beats the last exhibition we have seen in Frankfurt - the amount of paintings exposed, guided tours available and even video material available...impressive!

One must trapse around 'the back' in order to see the most excellent current Dix/ Beckman show...but this is no bummer! Its a knockout!Turns out, THIS was the original gallery--original entrance! and very fine Germanic boldness it has too...all in Mannheim red stone!The interior galleries show little of what might have been original (floors / doors unchanged?)..but comfortable they certainly are..& the lighting superb!The Foyer Void is a most striking architectural statement, with a dazzling new led chandelier to boot! After working out you must first buy your entry ticket from an inadequately promoted hole-in-the wall sliding(?) widow alongside the temporary Gallery Shop, you are greeted in person by an attendant, who having identified you as a ticket holder by removing part of your ticket, then graciously ushers you to either the cloak room (no charge..nice) or the start of the gallery two-level sequence(15 rooms total).What I find incomprehensible is that there is not the SLIGHTEST provision by the architects & designers for the disabled in this re-fit. Indeed one cannot even GET to the Great Front Door other than by mounting a grand set of formidable stone steps--let alone the impenetrable interior layout that follows. Most of the individual galleries have a single door that must be opened & closed each time..this confusing set-up is unexplained & not user-friendly. Indeed even the BEGINNING of the show looks to be unable to be negotiated right from the start!It seems obvious this building is ill-fitted for its new-age purpose..& not being an architect I cannot say if at least SOME effort could/could not have been made to accommodate disabled use---whatever the cost! If it cannot be modified it should not be a public gallery any more. Sadly that must be said!So if you can still get around, brave all those steps'n'stairs because it IS worth the effortbut be warned...its a big ask! Albeit a worthwhile result. There's a silly little coffee shop temporary to the refit, upstairs-- with inadequate seating. & with ONLY cakes for sale with your drinks...Germans sure LURVE those cakes!

Visited this Art museum along with the art museum in Karlsruhe on a cloudy-chilly Sunday and both were worth the visits. The Mannheim museum also has a good collection of paintings from various periods through Impressionist/Expressionist to Modern art with famous artist like Monet, Manet, Macke, Sisley, Van Gogh, etc. They also have a nice gift shop and Art Collection book for their museum collection. The only negative I have is that they do not allow photography in the museum which is different than the Art Museums in Karlsruhe and Frankfurt.

They have just great collection of modern art. Really worth to see it. Changing exhibitions are nice, but mostly mid-rage contemporary artists.

Heute machten drei Teilnehmerinnen mit mir eine Kunstfahrt von Freiburg nach Mannheim in Regionalzügen: das ist gewiss langwieriger, als mit dem ICE, aber dank dem Länderticket der Bahn auch sehr viel günstiger.Die schön restaurierte Kunsthalle - ein edler Jugendstil-Bau des Architekten Hermann Billing - erfreute uns durch "Zwiegespräche unter Wegbereitern der Moderne" mit der kleinen, aber feinen Ausstellung: "Manet-Cézanne-Van Gogh, aus aller Welt zu Gast", noch bis zum 18.1.15 ein absolut sehenswertes Highlight! An ausgewählten Bildern lässt sich der Weg der Kunst von der Gebundenheit an den Gegenstand zur Freiheit der Gestaltung und zur Hinwendung zum Eigenwert von Farbe und ihren Kontrasten sowie von Form zur Fläche nachvollziehen. Besonders die Bilder Cézannes lassen die Eigengesetzlichkeit von Farbe und Form und die Abkehr von der Bindung an Zentralperspektive nachvollziehen. Ein Diskurs entsteht zwischen den Exponaten, in den wir uns gerne einbeziehen ließen.Außerdem zeigt die Ausstellung im 1. OG die Arche - die wertvolle Sammlung, die hierher nach Sanierung des Hauses und vieler Bilder & Rahmen zurückgekehrt ist. Themenräume geben Einblick in die Sammlungsgeschichte und Restaurierungen, sowie einen Überblick von der Romantik zur Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts. Besonders die Arbeiten der Neuen Sachlichkeit lassen die "bleierne" Situation der Bildenden Kunst nach dem 1. Weltkrieg bis zur Nazi-Zeit nachvollziehen. Durch den ausliegenden Flyer erschließt sich die Ausstellung "YOUR TRUST" von Olafur Eliasson, die in Bezug auf die Räume geschaffen wurde. Herrlich die Lichtwolke Eliassons in der großen, schönen Kuppelhalle: ein Dialog zwischen der Zeit um 1909 und unserer Zeit. Ein sehenswertes Museum, dessen Erweiterung durch gmp-Architekten mit Spannung zu erwarten ist!

A cidade tem Mannheim tem muitos museus e este foi o que mais gostei por causa de uma exposição que mostrava a história desta cidade. Recomendo!

Für Liebhaber der Impressionisten ist ein Besuch der Mannheimer Kunsthalle eine Reise wert. Die Ausstellung geht noch bis zum 18.1.2015. Ein Highlight der Mannheimer Kunsthalle ist das berühmte Bild von Manet "Erschießung des Kaisers Maximilian von Mexiko". In der Ausstellung korrespondiert das Bild mit Manet "torero mort".Aber auch die Begegnung mit den vielen anderen Meisterwerken in der Kunsthalle ist absolut empfehlenswert.Uns gefällt dabei immer wieder ein Meisterwek von Adolf Menzel "Kopf eines alten Juden", einfach großartig!

Wir hatten heute die Gelegenheit, die Ausstellungen "Germaine Richier" und "Arche Die Sammlung kehrt zurück" zu besichtigen. Alleine die Skulpturen von Richier sind die Reise nach Mannheim wert gewesen. Aufgrund des Neubaus ist nur ein Teil der Sammlung auf kleinem Platz zu sehen. Wir freuen uns auf den Neubau und die Eröffnung 2017. Dann können wir die ganze Sammlung genießen.

Vicino ad una piazza davvero notevole, con verde, giochi d'acqua, Wasserturm (il luogo migliore di Mannheim), il museo annovera un Max Ernst da favola (vedi foto) e poi Cezanne, Giacometti, Macke, Monet, Modersohn Becker, Nolde, Kirchner, Rodin..... Unici nei uno shop risicato (in ambiente prefabbricato esterno) e un bar del tutto inadeguato al luogo. Da non perdere

что мне запомнилось в маленьком студенческом городке Мангейм. Прежде всего это водонапорная башня с красивыми фигурами и уютным сквером, здание университета и множество различных современных арт объектов по всему городу. А еще оригинальные канализационные люки с рекламой городских заведений. ничего подобного я в мире не видел.
