One of the main attractions of Weinheim, which is a beautiful and perfect town for a one-day trip, is Windeck castle. From the altstadt, the ruins make for a great view. If you decide to go and visit them, there is a modern pedestrian bridge which connects with the forest. After a 20 minute walk which can be steep at times, you´ll reach the small castle. Once there, you can walk around some more, go up to the tower (there is a 0.5 or 1 euro fee for that), have lunch, a drink or just enjoy the view and peaceful environment.

After walking up quite a steep hill (and not so well paved) the view over the city of Weinheim is very nice.

There are several walking paths/narrow streets, which lead from the "Altstadt" in Weinheim to the castle, and during the summer months, there is also a shuttle service. It consists of a big surrounding walll, a small court, a catering restaurant in the cellar, several ruins and a tower onto which you can climb by a staircase. Either from the front wall or the tower, you have a magnificent view over Weinheim and this part of the Upper Rhine valley. We are three boys (7, 11 and 39 years old), who would recommend this destination for a short morning or a afternoon trip.

Weinheim is just down the road from Morlenbach the little town I visited in the summer. Windeck is one of the many castles along the Bergstrasse. Weinheim is about twenty minutes drive to Heidleberg,and an hour or so from Frankfurt, longer if one chooses to drive the scenic Bergstrasse. Its proximity to other attractions,makes for a nice late afternoon outing if staying in this region. You can either drive to the top or park below and walk up what ever your preference. There is a little restaurant located on the castle grounds and this is a nice place to have a refreshing German beer and a little snack. Climb up the tower there is a metal box to leave the fee (honesty system) . The price will be posted. Fees collected are used for maintence cost.

Well worth the trip up the hill to see a great view of the town. Weinheim is a beautiful little town and there is nowhere better to check it out.

While the castle itself is fairly small, the tower is impressive. Even more imprssive are the views of the town and the suppounding countryside. If you park in one of the car parks near the Weinheim Gallerie shopping center you can easily get to the paths up the hillside. Start by walking up the Am Scholssberg which starts at the traffic circle just east of the shopping center. Then take a right on Neuer Burgweg and follow the signs.

The Weinheim castle is in a wonderful town, with a nice atmosphere. Weinheim is located between Heidelberg and Frankfurt, and is easily accessable from anywhere in central Germany. The hiking around the castle and through the vineyards is relaxing, allowing travelers to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. There is only fees for the food you eat, etc. Enjoy the views.

We did not drive up to the castle, we hiked. It was a bid of a challenge we wanted for ourselves. The view over the city of Weinheim is beautiful. We hat bratwurst, beer and wine in the outdoor restaurant on top. There was an indoor restaurant too, but we did not enter it. After our lunch, we climbed the stone steps up to the castle tower. The steps are very old and with uneven rises. A bid difficult, so take great care.

Видно, что замок сильно потрепали во время войны. Но при всем этом можно совешенно бесплатно забраться на башню. В темное время там можно увидеть летучих мышей, пролетающих над замком.

MannheimからStrassenbahnで30分ほどでしょうか？Odenwaldの入り口に当たるのがこのWeinheimです。名前の通り、Weinも作っているみたいですが、直ぐ近くにRheinlandpfalzがあるので影は薄いです。小高い丘の上にこのお城はあります。ドイツのほかの観光名所と違ってそれほど整備されていませんので、そのままです。おおよそ観光地の雰囲気はありません。でも、良いんだそこが。日本で言うと犬山城？見たいな感じでしょうか。坂もそれほど急ではなく、散歩に丁度良いです。良く現地の方もよくSpazierengehenしてらっしゃって会うのも観光地っぽくないです。日本人観光客だとわかると英語で話しかけてくれたりします。こちらがドイツ語で返してもしつこく英語できます。ドイツでも日本同様、英語が話せるのは一つのステイタスなんですね。落ち葉の降り積もる中の散歩は本当に気持ちが良かったです。

Se puede ver la ciudad , que es pequeña, pero la vista desde allá arriba es muy bonita! En invierno es muy frío con el viento que sopla, hay que ir abrigado!

die burg windeck, erstmals anfang des 13. jahrhunderts erwähnt, wurde im 15. jahrhundert mit einem bergfried und nebengebäuden versehen und ausgebaut. gegen ende des 17. jahrhunderts wurde die burganlage von den französichen truppen des ludwig dem XIV. eingenommen und teilweise zerstört. heute zeigt sich die windeck als gut erhaltene ruine und bietet einen ganz hervorragenden blick auf weinheim und die rheinebene. die ruine ist leicht zu erreichen mit dem auto oder auch zu fuß. der besuch ist kostenlos. gastronomie ist vorhanden.

Die Burgruine Windeck liegt oberhalb der Stadt Weinheim und ist vom Stadtzentrum per PKW (Parkplätze beschränkt) und auch auf einem schönen Fußweg (bergauf ca. 30 min.) zu erreichen. In den Sommermonaten fährt Sonntags auch stündlich ein Kleinbus vom Bahnhof und Stadtzentrum bis kurz unterhalb der Brurgruine. Vom Burghof aus hat man einen herrlichen Blick auf die Altstadt von Weinheim mit Schloß, in die Rheinebene nach Mannheim und Biblis und bei klarer Sicht bis auf den Pfälzer Wald. Der Bergfried ist ersteigbar und bietet zusätzlich Blicke in den Odenwald. Von der Burgruine aus führen zahlreiche Wandermöglichkeiten in die umliegenden Odenwald-Gemeinden. Es ist kein Eintrittsgeld zu entrichten. Manchmal ist die Burg in den Wintermonaten geschlossen. Die Burg ist bewirtschaftet (gute Hausmannskost, kann auch für Veranstaltungen gemietet werden), herrlicher Biergarten im Burghof. Wegen Hochzeitsfeiern ist das Restaurant (Gewölbe) an Wochenenden manchmal nicht öffentlich zugänglich, aber meist bekommt man im Biergarten etwas. Die Preise sind okay, das Personal freundlich. Kleine Kinder sollten beaufsichtigt werden, da die Burgmauern keine zusätzlichen Sicherungen bieten. Fazit: eigentlich ein Muss bei einem Besuch im romantischen Weinheim
