Gothic styling originally from the 1300's. Not as ornate as other churches, but nonetheless very beautiful. Clock tower has two clock faces one facing town, and the other facing Wertheim Castle, so the castle would always no what time it was.

The interesting exterior drew us to this church. It has been either Lutheran or Catholic in the past, depending upon the views of the town leaders. Currently it is a Protestant church. The altar area does not have the usual Biblical figures and pictures. Rather, the statues are of the past town rulers dressed in armor. But the atmosphere in the church was peaceful.

In this external rather ornamented but interior rather bare church one can notice he "Wertheimer Madonna" from 1325 (entrance holy Spirit Chapel) traditionally proposed as a loving mother. The prayer room still contains frescoes of the altar Mensa and "three Holy maidens" from its construction period and late Gothic frescoes in the modern northern nave. The famous tomb was removed due to restauration.

Wertheim im Dialekt WERDE genannt liegt an Tauber und Main.1384 legte Graf Johann I. von Wertheim den Grundstein für die spätgotische dreischiffige Stiftskirche. Im Innern die Grablege des Wertheimer Grafengeschlechts. Direkt hinter dem Altar befindet sich die "Bettlade" von 1618, ein Baldachingrab für Graf Ludwig III. von Löwenstein und seine Frau, Gräfin Anna von Stolberg.Die Burg über der Altstadt ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Von der Oberburg steht nur noch der Bergfried, denn durch eine Pulverexplosion wurden 1619 Teile der Burg und im Dreißigjährigen Krieg 1634 weitere Teile zerstört, die nicht wieder aufgerichtet wurden. Der Burgaufstieg sieht mühsamer aus, als er ist.Sehenswert in der Altstadt die alten Bürgerhäuser am Marktplatz und die Gässchen.Ein Glasmuseum befindet sich im Kallenbachsen Fachwerkhaus von 1577. Es zeigt auf einer Ausstellungsfläche von 400 qm Gebrauchsglas, Kunstglas sowie Glas für Wissenschaft und Technik. Am Ufer der Tauber ehemalige Fischer- und Bürgerhäuser.
