I'm not the animal lover type, but I still found this place very interesting. First of all, entrance is free so if you just want to go for a walk, this is the place for you (did I mention that the area is surprisingly big?).More to the point, they have plenty of exotic animals and even allow you to get very close in some areas (eg, with the goats and horses).The meerkats are a great attraction especially with the kids.To top it off, there's also a kiosk, great if you're feeling thirsty or hungry.

A beautiful animal park with no entry fee. You can see different exotic animals such as American Buffalos, Bactrian Camel, Llamas, Alpacas and Rheas only to name a few. They even have Meerkats and Gibbons. It is worth a visit alone, with friends or the family. The parking is 5 euros, which is like an entry fee and is used for its upkeep. All around the year it is worth a visit.

No entrance fee (but a parking fee if you come by car), nice place for a family outing. Kids will enjoy seeing the different animals and the small playground.

Can't recommend this place enough for families or visitors for a high quality, low cost, day out. Mundenhof is a 38 hectare oasis of green space where children can roam safely and interact with a massive variety of exotic and domestic animals. There's loads of great picnic areas and several massive play spaces - from natural play areas to stylised 'art' or 'senses' inspired playgrounds - where kids can run free. The variety of animals from Afrika, Asia, North and South America (lots which can be petted, or seen extremely close-up) make this a great day out and the size of the park means that you're hard pressed to see everything in just one day. What's more the icing on the cake is this is all for FREE! The park is a resource of the local community and is supported through donations so you don't pay any entrance fee. If you come by car and use the neighbouring car park then there is a 5 Euro (per day) car park charge but visitors using public transport or cycling can enjoy an inexpensive day out. We visited with a large family group and four children of various ages between 18months and 11 years and the park became a firm favourite with the whole group, with more than enough to see and do for several visits. It's great for families on a budget too, no entrance fee, picnic can be brought along and even a ice cream treat won't cost more than 1 euro per person.

This is a lovely place to visit, tha animals are all well cared for, we joined in a walking tour where it was feeding time. The guide was very knowleagible and informative. This is a free entry park, we also had ice cream which was only €1, parking was €4 but all money goes towards upkeep, really a wonderful facility well used too.

This is a lovely place for a Sunday morning visit. All the animals looked well cared for, with plenty of space. Most of the animals are herbivores - bison, camels, llamas, water buffalo... but there is a small 'exotic' section (more like a sanctuary for animals from inferior zoos) with gibbons, meerkats and a brown bear. There are guinea pigs and rabbits, but only to look at, not to pick up and pet.The park is laid out by continent - Europe, Asia, North America and would be a nice place to walk, even if there were no animals. Don't miss the aquarium and remember to look up - there are storks nests on top of every rooftop, water tower, chimney...There is a very pleasant biergarten at the far end of the park offering typical German sausage meals, cakes, crepes, pretzels etc. There is no entrance fee for the park, but parking costs 5 euros for the whole day. Locals all seem to come by bike.

This is a free zoo, but you have to pay for the parking. Unfortunately it was raining when we visited. They have some nice animals in a open area. Especially noteworthy were bisons, camels and monkeys. When you visit this place, don't forget to check out the aquarium with some salt water creatures and reputiles. Young children will have a great time. On a sunny warm weather, animals might be more active and enjoyable. If you like animals, you'll enjoy this place.

As a mother of 2 children which are 4 and 6 years old, I enjoyed a lovely afternoon in our summer holidays in Freiburg with my whole family. Because of the fabulous weather we just got there by bike. I never expected that so many kind of animals are living in such a good and comfortable atmosphere without any entrance fees. Especially for my lil ones there where a lot of activities like adventure play grounds and touching animals like goats, horses and donkeys. Moreover they where really excited about camel riding. Furthermore we are godparents of a peacock since summer. Due to the fact that it was a hot and sunny summer afternoon, so we just enjoyed a mouthwatering homemade ice cream. Which was soooo delicious. We will definitely come again.

After reading all the positive reviews, I expected a lot from Mundenhof. Above all I thought we would have a lot of interaction with pet animals, which was not the case. It is surely a nice place, where animals have a lot of space (and because of this they are sometimes very far from the fences, so that there might be some trouble to see them). The zoo is free of charge and if you arrive by car you have to pay for the parking (5EUR), but it is reachable by public transport too after a 15min walk. There are about 20 species of animals, divided according to their geographical area. If you come with children, the biggest fun comes surely from the little goats which can be freely touched as they are not in a cage. Also horses and deers are very nice, as they often come near the fences to take food (grass) from your hands, I would say that the park is neither good nor bad. For sure before visiting it again we will think about it twice or thrice.

Not only kids but also adults can be amazed by different kinds of animals on earth gathered in this huge zoo. It is worth taking a walk around the zoo and end up with a cup of hot chocolate in an autumn day!

Not what we would call a zoo really but a nice cheap couple of hours that works well for those with children below 10 I would say. Entry free with 5 euro parking charge. Really well laid put with nice easy walking and you can even cycle around

The zoo is free, you just pay the car parking. We went there on a very cold day, nevertheless it was a enjoyable experience. The bisons are impressive!

We went to the zoo yesterday, and despite being December, it was a great visit. We had been many times before but not recently. My teenagers even enjoyed it. Loved seeing the adorable meerkats, the baby ostriches, and the monkeys. This place is free, so it doesn't get much better than that. We ate at the restaurant and the schnitzel was fantastic. The lady taking the orders was frantic and a little impatient, but I've come to expect that at the Mundenhof. Lots of walking, but you can bring your bike, or wagon, anything you want. Kids can bring scooters.

I liked the mundenhof very much. It is a zoo like park, where the animals still have a lot of space and room to move. It is located a little bit away from the city center ( 30 minutes by car). A visit is also good exercise as it is a bit of a walk to make a full round. It is definitely a place to see, in you enjoy watching animals. The animals there are mostly local animals, but they also have some more exotic ones.

This little wildlife park/zoo is very close to the city, but in a pleasant rural location. We go there most times we visit Freiburg and the kids never seem to tire of it. There is a reasonable range of animals to see, and some petting animals. Food is the fairly usual South German fayre, and reasonably priced so easy enough to spend most of a day here.
