Unfortunately parts of the museum was closed as we visited it in late January 2015. We still found the museum truly faccinating, although we did not "get" everything. Great combination of new art, media and beautiful paintings from late 1800.
We visited the Museum at the start of May. In the first floor they had a temporary exhibition titled HIGH PERFORMANCE based in the Julia Stoschek Collection. There were also other exhibitions in the 2nd and 3rd floor, but the one in the first floor was the one we wanted to see. The place is really well organized, tranquil, good attention, a nice restaurant with good coffee and soup, and also a museum shop. I think if you are in Karlsruhe, the Museum and its exhibition are a must, event if you are not a fan of interactive art and digital media.
the expositions are always very interactive and interesting :) there is also a free day for students! definitely recommended!!!
Its a modern museum that has something for everyone, from technology innovative games to modern art. Next time i'll go again as tha last one i stayed ther only one hour and a half. Every friday evening there is a free entrance. :)
Most valuable sight in Karlsruhe if you are interested in art & science. On Friday afternoons free of charge.
this center has something for everyone.Just don't try opt for the combined entry fee. Visit Media Technology center and the Art Museum on different days.Make sure you have something substantial to eat beforehand as there are a three levels of exhibitions in the media section. The cross border exhibition by contemporary female artists- Arabian Mediterranean Region was really inspiring.
I have been there more than once, and i would go again. The second time I was there with my sister, but because they were renovating the museum we could just see a small part of it. So I think i wanna see how it looks now. I think the museum is something special, not like regular museums. The only weird part are the videos on the tvs. The rest is really cool, specially the room with light bulbs. On fridays is free.
I visited the ZKM in a cold winter day. The museum is great is you like contemporary art based on technology (new media). Do not expect to find big contemporary names on show. However, the concepts are very interesting and the exhibitions make it very interesting to visit. You can conveniently eat inside. The bookshop is excellent! Of particular note the section with a history of computers and video games!
It was a chinese hi-tech exhibition when I visited the ZKM. A lot of digital sounds, video and fun machines. If you like such a things don't miss to visit ZKM for a few hours.
Interesting and new way for Media Art in research, production and display.I miss something like that in Canada.
it is like a pool.. Jump and it swaps over you. You will breathe art.. one of the most facinating places i have visited ever.
The building alone is worth a visit (former munitions factory) and there is always a fun exhibit to see. The permananent collection is great for video game enthusiasts - you can even play old computer games (like Pacman)
We went here because of the reviews and were not disappointed. It cost 10 Euros for a family ticket but we soon lost the children to the interactive exhibits. I am unsure how much they learned as there was no option for a foreign guidebook, but the curators were approachable, knowledgeable and friendly. My highlight was the computer gaming floor, and reminiscing over systems for which I have written games to be downloaded by cassette tape or true floppy disc!
This review is for the entire art complex. Simply mindblowing that a small city has such a world class exhibition. From the municipal museum with a broad selection of top shelf works (from classic to contemporary) by local artists, to unrestrained explorations of different artistic media, to sprawling contemporary exhibitions, this facility is 3 or 4 art museums/exhibition halls in one. Unfortunately I visited on my last day in Karlsruhe- far too much art and culture for one day. Ask if your visit can be spread over two days as they have different ticket combinations at different times.
I went because of all the positive reviews I read here, but I was disappointed. The historical building is great (old factory), but unlike most people around here I wasn't really fascinated or impressed by what I saw. Just not my cup of tea.The building also houses the Museum für Neue Kunst. It has a large collection of modern art, nicely displayed. There is a museum cafe and a shop.
