The museum was beautiful and of course the art was amazing but this wasn't my kind of museum. The layout was a bit confusing and you go from room to room with many different types of portraits from artists from cities different in Europe. Was interesting but not my cup of tea..
Obviously a world class collection of classical paintings. Masterpieces throughout. The organization of the galleries is new and impressive. The paintings that originally drew me to the Alte Meister were the two Vermeers.
Great selection of paintings of old masters to see. Old fashioned displays, but spacious and well presented. Plan to spend a good few hours exploring the museum and surrounding grounds of the museum.
We visited in July: me, my daughter and mother. Definitely read a lot about it, watched movies. Impressive. Our group and guide Gelmut (informative guy) spent there around 1 hour - short enough, unfortunately we did not see the pictures, just the yard, fountain.Recommend.
Wow, great masterpieces, well organised. The lightning was sometimes a little old fashioned..... You have to walk a lot of stairs though
Particularly if it is a fine December day.We took a guided tour that morning and enjoyed the sounds (Musician Playing a violin) the multi national tour groups and our guide who brought history too life.Go see, even if you think it is not your thing, you may well be surprised.
Take your time and enjoy the espectacular works of art that this place has to show! The master piece is definetelly Rafael's Madona! By the time I was listening to the audioguide, I realised that without it I would have missed many details of the painting! I just loved it! Outstanding!
The museum is currently under construction, so about half of the total space is closed off. It appeared to me that they had shunted the collection into the open rooms, although I could have been wrong. Excellent collection and worth the time.
Wonderful collection here of German, Italian, and French master. Would recommend the audio tour also: at three Euros, it's a steal.
Art lovers should definitely head to this place for the fact that there are so many masterpieces at display here and most importantly they are well placed and the navigation around the place is quite easy too. i loved the pieces at display and had a great time.
It was just great. I spent several hours, took Russian audio-guide and explored a lot. Signature paintings from most known world masters of past.
Perhaps it would have been better if I'd come here first, rather than straight after a several hours long tour of different parts of the Residenzschloss, but I found the Old Masters Gallery very, very tiring. Too many rooms, too many paintings too crowded together (they soon began to blur into one another), too far to walk, an audio-guide that couldn't pronounce 'Renaissance'…. At least it's easy to find somewhere to sit, and the plan you get of the various rooms is fairly clear. It would help if the galley could produce a leaflet indicating fifteen (say) particularly interesting paintings to look out for as you go around, and explaining why they are interesting. There's a lift, a shop, a cloakroom and a cafeteria.
Great art well-displayed. You can get close enough to the paintings to really see the technique, the brush strokes. Best in show in Europe for our money. Better than the Tate or the Louve.
I didn't plan to visit Dresden, but since I was there, I took the opportunity to visit this place. I was amazed by the paintings displayed. The Sistine Madonna is really impressive. There are also paintings by other masters like Tiziano, Tintoretto, Rubens, etc. I really loved it!!!
I've been several museums like Louve, galleria academia and some in Florence and Berlin. This is one of my best renaissance painting collection. The ticket price is so valuable compared to tremendous renaissance painting collection. Just realized that the two little angels on the christmas box has originally comes from Rafael's sisterine Madonna. And you found in here. The museum is very compact but extravagant. Easy to walk through to see hundreds of paintings.
