It is located in the Old City, is a complex of palaces, galleries, churches and opera. It consists of twelve museums.
Germany was always my dream. And Dresden... i really felt in love with this city.... ancient monuments look so good with modern building... But when you get inside the Dresden Art GAlleries you are feeling on the cloud nine. Amazing place where you relax and enjoy beauty of arts
You would need about a day to look at all the art work in this amazing gallery. We were mainly interested in the collection of work of our distant relative Gerhard Richter. However, all the other items were very interesting and were surprise to notice that after three hours we did not see too much for lack of time.
The gallery is located in a large complex Zwinger, where several museums and exhibitions. Beautiful is a collection of Italian Renaissance art masters. I was in the Zwinger already 4 times and each time I discover something new. On this last visit, I have closely examined the collection of porcelain. The library collects truly unique exhibits not only from Germany but also from the Netherlands, China and other countries. Collections in the Zwinger is certainly among the best in Europe.
The collections range from primitive Italian art to modern and are really fine. Caspar David Friedrich studied here and there is a good collection of his works, mainly the earlier ones. Plan to spend two sessions since the collections are vast.
Terrific comprehensive archive of Gerhard Richter's work. A lovely art museum. I had never seem some of the Richter work on view.Very worthwhile.
Seeing the pictures by Rafael, Rembrandt and Tintoretto - what can be better on a post-Christmas day? ;) What we liked best was the easy route around the Gallery, as we all know how confusing they may be ;) And the collection of porcelain is really amazing! Worth visiting witout any doubt!
If you visit Dresden, you must visit these Galeries. They are near from other attractions and even if you don´t enter you can visit the gardens around. It is worth the paints and the café inside as well.
For anyone who enjoys treasure troves of paintings, porcelain (both German and Asian), as well as clocks, all inside a huge baroque building with formal gardens and walkways this wonderful museum will give you hours of pleasure.
Limited range of exhibits but a few interesting works of art. Not comparable with what is available in major city galleries. Pleasant environment and not plenty of space to view the art.
Liked mostly the Turkish room and the rooms with all the knights wearing their armour.Great museum to visit on a rainy day.
Dresden is packed with amazing places to visit and see, but don't wait for a rainy day to go and see the Albertinum, It is well worthwhile to take the time out and come here. There is a small café where you can sit and relax afterwards. There is a mix from Rodin sculptures to contemporary works, the Tony Cragg wood stood out and the impressionists onwards, so worth a visit if you like 20th Century onwards art. .
Super paintings, great archeological exhibits, some riveting statuary and a terrific quiet ambience when we were there. Worth every minute.
The Zwinger consist from 12 museums - Alte Meister Galerie, Armoury, Museum of Sculpture, Museum of porcelaine, Mathematic-Physic exhibition, Museum of Minerals and many others. Alte Meister - is #1 museum in Dreiden or even in Germany. But don't miss Armoury too! It's great! The collection is so big! Even if you're not weaponry and armament fan you'll be impressed for sure!
The museum is very well laid out and lighted. The collection is mostly local, but very interesting. I could have used more information of the plastic arts in the DDR.
