The biggest waterfall in Europe was found by accident when we were lost with a GPS to send us to a spoleto site. We saw from the distance this huge waterfalls and the very next day, we decided to visit. Amazing, beautiful place to visit. Go by car all the way up and watch the water falls and go down for a shower rain, we climbed all the way, almost 1 hour without knowing there was a way to see from the top! Our review is even by foot hocking is all worth it! The view is breath taking!

I was posted in Rome 2009-2012 we would take our cub scouts here each year. Hard to believe the falls are man made and date back to decades before Christ. The Romans used dikes and canals to Chanel water from one river to another several miles away. Check the on line schedule for the two times a day the falls are "turned on" by opening up the locks. An incredible sight to see the water grow in intensity and volume. Taking neat an hour to reach full potential. Take the time to hike to the top of the falls to see the incredible views. You must explore the many walkways along the falls and you definitely must go out onto "Lover's Balcony" for a close up look at the rushing water. Be advised you will need rain gear if you go to the balcony. If you want the most impressive views for pictures you have to hike up the mountain on the opposite side of the road from the falls. A visit would not be complete without seeing the falls from this vantage point. For the most adventurous visitors, consider taking a white water rafting or body riding course at the local school at the falls.

Uniquely, hugest waterfall of Italian peninsula, worth to see it both from lower and upper side view (beware of opening time and don't forget the umbrella)

This was a beautiful area in Italy. Unfortunately the water at the falls is held back in off season and is only let out fully on weekends. We visited in late October (off season). We paid a smaller entrance fee and walked around. It was still beautiful, but we could only imagine how impressive it would have been with full falls. We had a car, so drove to the upper falls area and took pictures from the upper falls (didn't have the time to hike the trail). It was beautiful, but had I known the falls weren't as full, I don't think we would have made this a focal point and driven so far just to see it.

An amazing experience in Terni, it is recommended to arrive before opening the sluice of the falls and then see the first surge of water drops 165 meters. the sluice open every day at 10 am (there is an alarm informs the people) - check the exact time on the site. You have to go up to the 165 meters view, you should take water and some food and make cuts on the way - there are very nice views all tracks.

This is a must...! We spent almost 4 hours there since it's a long way to the top! But once you make it there, you'll be so much happy! The scenery is breathtaking!

we loved it. We saw many other did too.Try reaching the water fall from behind the road. Also, the gps systems are taking you to the upper point of View where you can't really see a lot. Better to follow the signs to the bottom park. It's lovely.

It is best to start at the top and walk down. Check the time when the water will be released before you go.

We spent a whole afternoon here almost by accident. The falls are not well advertised but we found a brochure in our hotel. The waterfall park was less than 10 euros each and worth every cent. The walk up to the top of the falls was steep with lots of steps but with beautiful views at every turn. We thought the waterfall looked lovely...and then they opened the dam. The volume of water increased hugely and became spectacular. There are several places to cross the water all with amazing views and the strength of water under each bridge was incredible. There is a cafe at the top of the park where we were able to have some lunch before heading back down for the 3pm opening of the water. Some parts of the path can be quite wet and some parts are uneven.

Wonderfull place especially when they open the waterfalls, terrific... it can be an excursion from Rome, It is located 7.7 km from Terni, a provincial capital of the Italian region of Umbria. It can be reached from Rome by train for a short ride for 7€ each way. if you have time in Rome don't skip it..

The falls are opened twice daily 12 -1 and 3-4?. We were lucky enough to arrive 11.20 and managed to make it 3/4 of the way down so we could get a great view and experience it changing from a stream to a torrent. Be prepared for a steep climb down with uneven terrain and an even tougher climb back up. When the waterfalls are at full pelt there is some spray coming onto the paths. We absolutely loved the whole experience. There are different walks which take you down the falls and I believe there us a circuitous route where you can take acar down. Lots of picnic benches. Cafés dotted at top and bottom. Steps very well maintained but very uneven. We went in September so there was plenty of parking and no crowds. €9 pp entry fee.

It was an amazing water fall. Sadly, it was so crowded we couldn't park as it was in August so we had to satisfy ourselves by driving past and stopping briefly in a full car park before being shooed away by the parking attendant! However, if you go at a lower season time, it would be wonderful to see it properly.

We had a lovely relaxing half day at the falls. We arrived only for the last 15 minutes of the water at full pelt (I think it was on 12-1, but it obviously changes), so we sat and had a coffee at the base before taking a slow saunter up various paths. Walking up when the water isn't running means you don't get wet other than a few drips if you go through the tunnel to stand close to one section of the falls. Don't miss this bit out. We had a leisurely lunch at a little bar/restaurant at the top and then got ourselves in position for the 4pm 'taps on'. You know it's coming as the wartime air raid sirens are set off. We started on the walkway outcrop near the top - a good spot for the view but not getting wet.We then spent the next 30 minutes meandering down the paths getting pretty wet as you get close to take good photos. Lots of fun whether you're a kid or not! There's lots of steps, so a good workout for the legs. Study footwear will help. It's also worth taking some bug spray and a waterproof. It goes from being hot and muggy in places to quite cool so prepare for variations in temperature. Hopefully it's hot enough when you finish to dry out in the sunshine :)
