This charming tiny village is about a three minute drive from Valeggio sul Mincio between Verona and Mantova. It is likely one of the prettiest little villages in this part of Italy. There were a number of restaurants in the village - one was right at the river's edge and apparently has a very good reputation. It is a very romantic little gem - but one that most people don't hear about. It is certainly worthy of a visit.

It's really small, but it's so cute, with all its houses (old water mills) on the river, the ancient dam-bridge, perhaps a couple of shops, and the start of a nice walk (that could probably be quite long) along the river Mincio, towards Mantova. Didn't try the restaurants.

This village consists out of three streets, some restaurant and a river. During the day loaded with tourists (most of them only on the bridge and not in the village), but in the evening and at night a very cool place to hang out. There are only a few hotels in Borghetto (which are expensive), which means that most of the tourists leave before diner. So, if you got the time and the money stay in Borghetto for 1 night. You will see a whole other Borghetto than during the day, great!

Arguably one of the most picturesque of Italian inland villages. Houses and restaurants jut out into river Mincio and weir. The castle @ nearby Vallegio overlooks the village as does the beautiful Mediaeval bridge. A number of high class restaurants, despite its small size.

Everything is said and written... I was one of those people who concentrate the north side of the expressway, the Garda lake area, you know Sirmione, amusement parks, hot springs, lakeside camping but I'm really glad that eyed the south side of the expressway, this time... This is a historical village because of its Scaliger and Visconti domination in the Mid-Ages; the Templars had a commandery here and was a Napoleonic warsite. Is small (less than half day visit is enough) perfect to match a visit to Sigurtà park not far from here (if, into gardens!); biking from Peschiera to Mantua or viceversa (if, into sports!); waterparks (couple of them in the area); vineyards (many of them) or match a visit to the lovely village of Castellaro Lagusello. If staying in Verona or Garda lake area still is not too far to come here. The village gets very busy in the weekends (there was a wedding on course when we were visiting); locals adore to walk, stop & lunch in this place. Parking is on payment (as every touristy place!) and is listed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

We have been reading or watching on TV documentaries about Borghetto sul Mincio for years. Finally we made our visit detouring from Isola della Scala to Marmirolo. Parking is on payment and there is a short walk to the old gate. For us the village deserves the excellent rate as it is quaint, original, tidy, rich of history, romantic and still not over-run by tourists. It's hard to understand how people do not complain about tourists in Venice or Rome but do not accept that Borghetto lives only of tourism. Driving over the bridge of the fortress remains gave us an extra emotion, continuing to Volta Mantovana amongst vineyards and reaching the highest point in town completed the frame. Absolutely fantastic.

If you want a small quaint Italian romantic place, you have to visit this place. Not far from Verona by car, it seems like a place where Romeo and Juliet could have gone on a date. The river runs through the small fort area. Picture this -a small church, colorful buildings, shops, gelato, small field with horses grazing in an big abandoned estate, lavander ribbons tied to the bridge and the trees making it look like there is a wedding, cafes and restaurants by the water. The views are wonderful and you can see the whole place in a couple of hours. But then there is the castle to walk up to from there......This place is where the locals go to on a Sunday to relax and slow time to a wondering pace.......

Good small cafes and restaurants, most of them have terraces on the river.Parking out of the village and tourists are not allowed to park except in the most far parking lot (1 Euro/hour) on an empty place.I think that the tourists are not welcomed.

A beautiful old town surrounded by a large park an a lot of water. Many bicycle riders in the park trails during the weekends. On sunny days you can spend a whole day traveling in and around the town.

Borghetto is a small village down Vallegio sul Mincio. It has a large number of water mills and a nice bridge where during June all restaurants install tables for thousands of guests

This is a very nice place to visit, try to choose a sunny day. Better skip the weekend. The old place not far from the castle is really nice. These old houses on the river, the blue- greenish Garda lake water in the river- it's really nice. Eat their raviolis, they are fabulous everywhere! And spending half an hour sitting by the river looking at the running water, under the trees, it's so relaxing.. Then , if you are strong enough :), take a long walk upstairs to the castle- the view is just amazing! What's amazing as well- the food even in the very centre of this touristic place is very good. The home-made ice cream is great, so highly recommended. Of course you have to come by car, then use the advantage to be here and visit the Sigurta Park- very nice as well

Do not miss the tiny hamlet of Borghetto on the Mincio River about 10 minutes from Gallo del Pille bed and breakfast - a little village built on the river with water-powered mills and beautiful views over the river. We are thinking of bringing our bikes next time because the rolling countryside is perfect for long rides of moderate difficulty.Overall, we thought this was a highlight of our trip to the Veneto and Lombardy regions and are already planning to come bback. For those looking for seclusion, peace and quiet without being overly remote, Borghetto is an excellent choice. The place is highly recommended.
