It is beautiful. Door at the entry of St Peter's Basilica. It is kept shut, and only opened, by the Pope, every 25 years. Get as close as you can and admire all its beaty.

In person, the Holy Door is absolutely spectacular. The pictures on here really don't do it justice. Opened by the Pope every twenty five years for the jubilee year, the Holy Doors are cemented shut from the inside and marked in the Basilica with a large golden cross. Make sure you get up close (as close as you can, they do have security ropes and guards for the doors) and get a good look, because they are amazing!

The Holy Doors are sealed until they are opened once again by the Pope in 2025. They are huge and they are gorgeous as they illustrate the life of Jesus in 16 different panels.

These doors were very impressive. The only time they were opened in my lifetime was when Pope John Paul II opened them. It would be nice to get a closer look! These are at St. Peter's, but before you enter the main basilica.

The "Holy Door" is the northernmost entrance at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. It is cemented shut and only opened for Jubilee Years. It was closed when we visited but still it is a beautiful piece of art.

To understand the important of Holy Door in the view of Catholoc doctrine. To broaden the horizon on how the Catholic Church history as compared to other Christian sects. In as sense mrespecting each doctrine without competing each other who is the best Christian sect or religion.

This famous "Porta Santa" or Holy Door, was created to depict the life of Jesus. It is gorgeous and tremendous in scale. This is the sealed entrance into the Basilica and it only opens once every jubilee year. The next time will be 2025.

The Holy Door is a beautifully sculpted large door with 16 panels repesenting the life of Jesus that it is cemented and is open only at the jubilees (the next time when it will be open is the year 2025). It is a nice place to see among many others in Vatican.

Saw it on the outside but failed to photograph or realise its importance. Photographed from inside but its just unfinished concrete.

The famous ''Porta Santa'', I was here the first time in 1999-2000 on the occasion of the jubilee year when they used to say that you had to pass through this door for the new millennium, well I did it and I repeated it again now. I do not know everything but a sense of inner well-being, maybe it will be only a psychological effect but is a must try, the entrance to the basilica of St. Peter, and consequently the most famous church in the world.

Porta Santa are the large doors on the right side of the main entrance to Saint Peter's Basilica. It is located where the Vatican Museum exits into Saint Peter's Square. It has 16 panels that depict scenes from the life of Jesus. It will remain closed until 2025 when the Pope will open them in the year of Jubilee.

We visited all four of the Holy Doors in Rome. We saw this one last and it was the best one. The door depicts 16 images of Jesus Christ throughout his life and really has such incredible detail. My favourite part though, is the reverse side of the door. This one has been cemented up so when it does get opened by the Pope (Only once every 25 years) it will have to get smashed open. A dramatic image of the Pope with a hammer springs to mind. The door can be busy as it is situated where the Vatican Museum exits into St Peter's Square and the Basilica so crowds can be an issue. Be patient though and you won't be disappointed.(The fee and recommended visit time is for the Vatican Museums and St Peter's Basilica as we did them all in one tour).

Large, heavy door. crowds of visitors, it is difficult to get a picture without people and tourists.
