Sights better than at Sigulda (and not so crowded). Park is without an admission fee, but entrance to Castle Ruins is without fee only in out of season time (nov-apr). During season entrance is LVL 1 per person or LVL 2.50 for family.

There is a wonderful walk to this attraction starting at Rudolph Restaurant which is an excellent restaurant and walking through the woodlands and by the Daughava river until you reach the Castle Mound. The guide tells one that this ruined castle can be dated for its earliest habitation between the end of the 1st millenium BC and the beginning of the 1st millenium AD. The last period of habitation beginning in 1209 when the Crusaders destroyed the wooden castle and built a stone castle in its place ending in the 18th century
