The monastery is an impressive ensemble of buildings. Renovation is still in progress. The church was not open at this time of the year, so we have to come back some other time.

We had never heard of this place, but came across it and were very interested in its history, as a monastery for two different orders, a mansion/home to one of the key figures of the 30-years war, a detention centre for uncooperative priests, a psychiatric hospital, and now a venue for 'retreats, events and religious activities.

Excellent place for reflection and contemplation. The church is beautiful and a must see. A lot of time and money is being put into restoring the monastery, abbey, and the church after the damage wrought on the monastery by Communist rule which only ended in 1999. Hostel accommodation is available at the abbey which is clean but basic.

Barockgotik - Jan Blazej Santini, alles was von diesem großartigen Baumeister erhalten ist, ist unbedingt sehenswert! Und sehr vieles wird in Tschechien sehr gut und behutsam renoviert.Dazu kommt noch in Zeliv die außerordentliche Freundlichkeit des Pfarrers und der Verantwortlichen, die uns eine kompetente, ausführliche und äußerst interessante und sehenswerte Führung ermöglichten und das außerhalbe jeder offizieller Öffnungszeit. Es gibt deutsche Texte und einige Personen sprechen deutsch.
