Klenová Castle is a beautiful spot and definitely worth checking out. It can be hard to find (it's in the village of Klenová, not actually in Klatovy as we had thought), the ruins are located at the top of tall hill. The hill affords beautiful views of the Czech countryside, and the ruins themselves are a lot of fun to take time and explore!
First of all the castle is in the very nice coutryside which you can see from the tower. On one side Sumava hills on another wiev to Klatovy. I like also the sculptures placed thru the whole historical parts and the exhibitions inside the castle.
We stopped in the Klenova castle and chateau complex near Klatovy (South Bohemia) on the way to the Sumava mountains. I can certainly recommend making a detour or a trip there. There are splendid views from the castle towers and the “ruins” are easy to access, in summer housing a modern outdoor sculpture exhibition of many interesting and amusing pieces. The small chateau has a few well decorated rooms and also houses modern art exhibitions. The good value entrance ticket (70Kc, just over £2), includes a guided tour of the complex and also entry to two art galleries in the nearby town of Klatovy. The castle restaurant is cozy and has a summer terrace with nice views, and serves reasonably priced dished, including a very tasty potato and wild mushroom soup (25Kc, under £1 a bowl).
Ruins of a Gothic castle dating back to the 13th century, in Renaissance style enlarged by Jiří Harant of Polžice and a castle built 17th century (the posh part of the castle can only be visited via a short guidetour whih is included in the entrance fee). Converted in pseudo-Gothic style 19th century. The birthplace of Kryštof Harant of Polžice and Bezdružice, a traveler, writer and composer. An outdoor gallery of sculptures can be found in the ruins. The interiors of the castle, with stucco and period furnishings, serve as an artgallery of art from the 19th and 20th centuries.
