The most beautiful thing in the cathedral is the astronomical clock. It's an amazing clock. Unfortunately the cathedral is not in a good shape
This is such an impressive gothic cathedral dating back to the late 1200's, in an unassuming town, definitely worth seeing
a very nice cathedral, but in my eyes little bit over rated. I saw plenty other cathedrals in my life and this one was nice but not in top 5 at all.
Very historic. Little bit spooked by materials sitting on ground that had fallen off building...it is very, very high. Work actively being carried out in it.
Make sure that you stay for the presentation of the Cathedral's clock. It is in French and has no English version though.
Just go there and see for yourselves. The glory of a Cathedral is surrounded by a charming city, good food spots and generous sightseeing walks.
Well worth a visit when in Beauvais. Beautiful architecture with interesting features. The astronomical clock is huge - there is a charge to see this which, we believe includes a talk. There was no one there during our visit and so we were able to at least see this amazing piece of mechanics.
stained glass reminiscent of La Sainte Chapelle- but the automata on the clock are just fantastic- worht paying for the commentary
This cathedral transforms itself at night. It becomes a canvas for a wonderful light show. We were mesmerized. We toured the church the next morning and it was breathtaking inside as well.
Enjoyed a 30 minutes light and music show at the Cathedral that happens on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
How lovely to be in Picardy. So many beautiful places. We are trying to see all the cathedrals, this time :Beauvais. It is a stunning building. One can understand what the architect wanted. You can see what he tried. And at the same time you undergo the massive mistake. (What goes up, must come down) A disaster is being postponed by complicated woodworks. But the space inside also gives the feeling of a missing part. The windows were impressive. Why is it always so difficult to have a little Bach on the speakers. While it seems easy to chase the visitor away when the explanation for the clock is transmitted.
Yes, gothic cathedrals are huge and reach to the sky. This is taller, bigger, incomplete, and failing. They never completed the main nave and façade, leaving the choir and transect unbalanced and needing "temporary" buttresses. The only cathedral where I ever felt the strain of matter pushed by mankind up against gravity. Feels like watching an Apollo launch from under the pad. And I am a baby-boomer born in Milan, so I have grown up thinking Apollo and watching the gothic Duomo.
Each evening, after the sun has gone down, there is a "Son et Lumière" show which is really worth a look
Beauvais cathedral is certainly worth a visit but not sufficiently tourist oriented. All captions and notes to items to see are only in French when having in German and English as well would help. If going to Beauvais do not fly via its airport! Lacks seating and what there is, is all metal! Toilets are disgusting and many had never seen any bleach in months as stained filthy brown under the water level.
