I was driven on this bridge , connection between Kalmar and öland. The speed is limited at 70/h and at a bite part at 90/h. I drove on it in the summer and winter time. You can see many lamps at both side with many birds on it. A bit boring to adjust speed on a long bridge without any emergency exit or out exit. Until you arrive in kalmar or opposite Öland .but i like it. Our life is based on exprience. Isn't it?
Not much to say. It's a bridge. A long one. Always impressive... :) I used to come to Öland quite a bit as a kid, but this time was the first in about 20 years, so I guess I relived some childhood and youth moments crossing it.
They renovated the bridge for some years ago and its now terrible with lots of bumps. Travelling over frequently and its bad. its more then 6 km long bridge.
It´s a bridge, plain and simple and it leads to Öland. Nothing more and not much to see but I recommend a trip over to the island if you are there in summertime. If not, avoid because Öland is a windy and cold in the winter.
This is not only a pretty cool bridge, which was the longest in Europe for many years after being built. The view over the water from the top is great. Just remember you are not allowed to stop your vehicle to enjoy it. The bridge is also a cool part of the Ironman Kalmar bike course. Since they made the bridge 4 lanes it has not been allowed to bike over it, but now you can. As long as you sign up up for Ironman, held in Kalmar and Öland every August.
This is a lovely crossing & it was nice to be able to drive across this. However, being spoiled with THE bridge, this is not quite the same. It does offer you a good perspective of the whole of Oland.
Beautiful bridge, (free) to the UNESCO sites on Oland. Great Rainy day crossing in high tourist season, still good flow across and a little congested on the way back.
How do you review a bridge? All I can say is that it is easily accessible, traffic flowed and there was no toll charge which surprised us.
You drive over it, it's 6 km long. Not that much to say, really. The view is good driving over it. We went to see some of the sights on Öland - The north-east side of the island is GREAT for finding fossils.
Once a year, you are allowed to bike across the brigde - only if you participate in the Ironman Kalmar, and the bike ride across the bridge was quite spectacular, despite the windy conditions we had in 2013.
An impressing building at the time. From my point of view not really a tourist attraction. However, you might enjoy the nature around the bridge on the Kalmar side
6 072 meters with a top level 42 meters above sea level. No walking or biking allowed (there is a ferry in the summer). Spectacular of Kalmar and Färjestaden respectively but also of all boats, ships and other vehicles made for water. The weather can also be very scenic including sunrise/sunset, calm water/waves, cristal clear sight/haze. Remind the driver to watch the traffic!
