Visited a lovely church, coffee shops and had a walk around the town of Sala. Lots of snow and very few people! Shops closed on 24th and 25th, a few coffee shops open 26th.

We had a really great time at the Silver mines. Our guide was very knowledgeable,enthusiastic and spoke excellent English. He was also not a bad singer.It is suitable for people of all ages and it is only about 1/2 hour's drive from Stockholm Vasteras Airport.

Fantastic day at the mine. Great to cool down in the Swedish Summer heat too. The elevator down the 155 metre shaft is a fantastic unique experience and our host Joachim was just fantastic, particularly how he demonstrated the mines acoustics with his very impressive rendition of Summertime. Great day and we will be back.

My husband and I visited the silver mine one Sunday afternoon. We decided to do the 155m tour and it was an interesting way to dpend a couple of hours. Our tour guide was excellent and shared lots of facts/history. He also sang by the underground lake which was beautiful.The mine also has a shop, musuem, restaurant and an abtiques market near to it. I think that if you are interested in local history then this is a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Interesting bit of history set in a great location. There is not a huge amount to do in Sala (imho) so the silver mine makes for an interesting day out. For kids it is quite appealing as you do get the whole mining feel with helmets etc...

We went on the 155m tour, the mine is stunning and our guide Jacob was fantastic! Especially the visit in the echo chamber was magic...

it was really nice place, and pretty easy to go with strollers down to the mine, the stuff was pretty helpfull aswell!

Myself and my girlfriend stayed in the underground bedroom recently and did the 155m mine tour beforehand.I am an old hand at show mines, as I have an active interest in mining heritage. The 155m mine tour is amongst the best I have been on. The guide was knowledgeable about the mine and its history and gave the tour in both Swedish and English. The highlight of the tour was the part where she sang in the worked out stope that acts as an echo chamber.The overnight experience was very good. We were allocated a hostel room above ground until the designated time to go underground. There was a minor issue with the key fob to get into the hostel as it did not work on one door into the hostel and we eventually made it in through a side door.The mine room itself was a positive experience, being a large chamber with alcoves for the double bed an another for the dining table.The only down side I would see was the early check out time of 11:00am and would suggest that the site owners either revise this to later and/or allow guests to stay in the hostel common area to a later time if they genuinely need to have guests leave the hostel bedroom by 11:00.am.

It’s an adventure. Every time, we have done the tour 3 times now. Both the 60 and 155 meter descend. The story telling, the fact every inch of stone is removed by hand and the environment of the mine as well makes it a great experience. Are you planning to go there? Do not forget to ask the guide to sing a song; it will give you the goose bumps.

First visit there, we went down to 155 meters and got a pretty long tour of the place. It is amazing to know everything was made by hand, inch by inch, so long ago. The guide was good and knew much.Be sure to bring a sweater, and preferably a jacket that can withstand water. It is cold and damp, and water rains down in places.There is also a "hotel" room you can rent for a night, deep inside the cave and if you are an experience cavern diver, you can also dive there! Can't wait to do so myself.

I've visited this place twice with my family. Surprisingly few Swedes have been there, but it's a really great place to go to. The mines are huge and beautiful, and the history is very interesting. Nice guides too. Go!The very nearby town of Sala is also very neat, with old buildings and a beautiful park in the summer. Inclöude it in your tour!

Before that, the tour conductor will bring you to get your safety helmet and then off we went to the elevator in order for it to bring us, all the way down to 155m. When I first stepped into the mine with my partner, seeing the burning torch on the encarved metal frame logo of a miner with a pickaxe, a sudden thought of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs just came to mind.The temperature dropped down to 3-5 degrees Celsius when we've reached 155m underground. At first, I felt fine with my thick coat on but after touring for like more than half an hour, I think my body started to feel hypothermia and I could feel a bit of a runny nose. Whereas, my partner felt fine. He kept joking that probably he's part of a Viking descendant. Therefore,he could stand the cold temperature :PFirst, the tour conductor told us to obey certain rules, not to speak faulty languages, whistling or yelling throughout the journey as the belief was that, there's the Lady in the Mine who lives in the mine. She's like a guardian/ protector for the fellow miners. In need to let her guard the miner or the fellow tourists, we need to follow her rules. Basically, don't talk too much. Before starting our tour, each of us had to knock on the mine wall for 3 consecutive times to let the lady knows about our existence. So, all this gave me goosebumps, seriously! We had to keep following the tour conductor closely as he was the only one with the portable burning flame. It was really dark inside the mine. It was an English conducted tour. We walked one round which included the warm hall where occasionally, concerts could be held here, they have got a mine suite attached to a banquet hall. One could book to have an experienced stay here. I think it's really extraordinary, memorable but at the same time creepy! hehe~ The tour lasted for around 1.5 hours. Tour guide was great and made the tour pretty humorous. Well worth the time. If i did it again i would take the longer tour!

We made a visit at Sala Silvergruva in Halloween. They offered a spooky tour in the late afternoon/evening and it was great. It's held in the woods above the mine and involves an impressive number of actors as witches, fairies etc... I highly recommend this tour for families.Seeing the mine and its underground lakes at 155 m is also worth while, but the kids are better off if you make the tours on seprate days because the both last for more than an hour. The B&B has a good standard and is very gosy so spedning the night there after the ghost tour is a good option. The tavern at the mine offers good food also for children.

It was an amazing sight and great to hear some of the history. I took the 155 meter tour and it was very interesting. P.S. It's really cold in the mine
