The church is beautiful, I took the train to go up and walk down all the steps. The walk gives different views of the lake and the city.

Either take the cable car up or walk the steps starting at Hotel Belvedere along the 12 stations of the cross (uphill so a bit of a work-out). No matter how you get there, the inside of the church is mesmerizing with frescoes and decorations. Don't miss the pipe organ to the left of the choir.

We took a funicular train up there. After a quick walk around we went into the church which in build up on cliff and is overlooking the lake. Very nice atmosphere inside, definitely worth to go for religious people but also nice for tourists!

We came for the view and were definitely satisfied. If you want to save money go up with your car in the morning, you will find parking place, all you need is to put the time disc provided in the rented car.

Easy to get to via funicular train. There are many stairs you walk up and down to go in and around the grounds. We were there on a Sunday morning in July 2014 and there was a service commencing. Once it was over, we went in and looked around. The church is not too impressive, the views are ok. I would recommend going up to Cardatta, or even better, all the way up to Cimetta for excellent views. But, it is worth stopping and looking around on your way up.

We really enjoyed taking the Madonna del Sasso funicular up from Locarno to Orselina. The church is beautiful, set dramatically on the cliff overlooking Lake Maggiore. We continued up from Orselina on the Cardada cable car, which offered some even more breathtaking views.

The walk uphill as well as the funicular both start from Locarno's Piazza. The small, old train is convenient and costs a fee. It takes you all the way to the base station of the Gardada gondula, somewhat above Madonna del Sasso. A nice walk downhill leads to the church compound and from there into the city. The church is a landmark worthwhile a visit and the view over Locarno, the lake into the Italian alps is stunning.

We cheated by using the funicular but this only served to heighten the effect as the building came into view and began to merge with the trees. The church and cloisters are amongst the most colourfully decorated we have ever seen. Views from the terrace are spectacular. The statues of the Last Supper were in the process of being renovated and we were able to watch the sculptors at work.I can only recommend a visit most highly and leave you to find your own sense of wonderment.

The views from this church are beautiful. There are life-sized figures of Jesus and the disciples at the Last Supper, - really unusual to see. We heard the bells ring from our hotel garden- lovely! We travelled up by funicular but walked down a cobbled path.

Such a beautiful church. The life size sculptures were something like I have never seen before. The views from outside were spectacular.

Clean, airy modern church with stunning views over Locarno and Lake Maggiore. Can be reached by funicular (5-10 mins) or by pathway.

I'm a local and this is one of the places I show to friends who come and visit for a few days. Make sure to start the walk from Piazza Grande, pass by the Villa Erica school and continue on. The walk up is very nice but can be rather strenuous, so if you're in a bad shape or have a heart condition better make your way up on the furnicular (7.20 CHF) and enjoy the walk down. The monastery itself is not a big deal but it's worth a visit.

Absolutely wonderful church - make sure you open the door to the church as thought it was closed first time. wonderful views, amazing church and lovely climb up the hill (only 10-15mins)

Climbing uphill ,it was a most pleasant experience, all this wonderful vegetation . The Monastery very atmospheric and interesting, all of it. And the view down to Lake Maggiore with the snowed mountains all around was unique, especially under a blue sky, as I was lucky to have. A place not to be missed if someone is at the region.Ada

Beautiful quiet and reflective Church, well worth the walk up the winding path. visitors with mobility issues would need to take the finicular. Magnificent art inside the church and wonderful views of Locarno and Lake Maggiore from outside
